Family Promise of Grayson County Newsletter June 2023

NTXGivingDay

Our mission is intersecting faith and community to empower

Grayson County families to end child homelessness.

Message from our Executive Director

Dear friends,

I am blown away by your kindness and generosity! When a community match is needed to get a grant, you match! When our supply shelves are getting empty, you fill them! When our guests need a place to stay, you graciously host them! Thank you for your wonderful works! I am grateful to live in a community that shows compassion and grace for those who are in need. And really, aren't we all?

Happy June! May the warm days ahead fill you with joy.

Leigh

WOW! YOU DID IT!!

In half the allotted time, you surpassed the goal of raising a $5000 community match in order for us to receive a $15,000 grant! Your generous gifts totaled $6262, easily ensuring we will receive the 2023 Family Promise National Clayton Prevention and Diversion Grant! Thanks to your generosity, more families with children will be prevented from becoming homeless.

Thank you so much for helping us reach this goal! This grant will be applied to our Family HOPE program that assists families with expenses such as rent or utilities, so they can remain in their homes and avoid homelessness. Already this year, 59 families (including 113 children and 94 adults) have been assisted through this program. There is not enough space in this newsletter to describe how meaningful that is! You are making a real difference through your gifts!

Grayson Christian School Blessings

Students from Grayson Christian School put their faith into action by delivering five huge, decorated boxes of toiletries, paper products, diapers, and other baby supplies collected by the Student Council for Family Promise! These kind-hearted middle and high school students will bless countless families with their generosity!

Included with the hygiene items were notes of encouragement and invitations to attend Grayson Bible Baptist church services. We are so grateful to these youth and their teachers for their thoughtfulness!

THANK YOU to our Host and Support Congregations!

When you receive this newsletter, guests of our Interfaith Hospitality Network will be winding down their week at Grace Lutheran Church in Denison. The newest family is comprised of a mom, a dad, and their 5 year old son. They are working hard and are eager to achieve their goals. Your prayers and encouragement help a lot!

June host congregations include Covenant Presbyterian in Sherman, Hagerman Baptist in Sherman, Lakeway United Methodist in Pottsboro partnering with Fairview Baptist in Sherman, and Grace United Methodist church in Sherman. Thank you to the members of these congregations for welcoming, hosting, feeding, and loving our guests so graciously!

No Show Gala

Deepest gratitude to those of you who have NOT attended our No Show Gala! This non-event is one of two annual fundraisers benefitting Family Promise of Grayson County. Whether you are thankful for not being asked to chair the event or you are happy just to stay home and watch a Texas sunset, we are much obliged to you for giving over $16,000 towards our goal of $20,000!

Giving credit where it is due

If you have not had the pleasure of meeting Joshua Whitworth with Independent Financial bank, you have missed out! He recently facilitated a class on, "Budgeting Income and Expenses". It was both fun and informative! We are so thankful to have partnerships with local banks that host monthly financial literacy classes.

Independent Financial hosts our classes on the last Tuesday of the month. The next class will be Tuesday, June 27th from 6-7 PM at the Family Promise Day Center (901 E. Houston Street in Sherman). The topic will be, "Making Housing Decisions". The July class will geared for children. It will be from 5:30 - 6:15 PM on Tuesday, July 25th.

All classes are free and open to the public. Snacks and child care are provided. Please call Leigh (903-771-0322) to let us know you can join us. See you there!

A final thought...

"Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done."
