NTXGivingDay

Our mission is intersecting faith and community to empower

Grayson County families to end child homelessness.

MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

This month let's celebrate the impact of our efforts in helping families in need. Our community is so generous! We at Family Promise are grateful for a cornucopia of blessings. Each act of kindness, whether it is donating food, serving a meal, or volunteering, embodies the spirit of gratitude November represents. By coming together as a community, we not only uplift others but also enrich our own lives. I am grateful for each of you.

Blessings,

Leigh

YOU ARE INVITED!

Clayton, a leading national builder of single-family attainable housing, and Family Promise are continuing to combat family homelessness in the Grayson County area and beyond. As part of a national program, A Future Begins at Home, Clayton is donating a new home to Family Promise! This is the 19th home Clayton has donated in partnership with Family Promise and the second home donated to Family Promise of Grayson County!

The home will be used as transitional housing for local families seeking to rebuild their lives. The two organizations will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the home donation at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 13. The home is located at 119 Eisenhower Way in Knollwood. We would love to see you there!

We are thrilled to have this opportunity, and are overwhelmed by the generosity of Clayton, Freedom Homes of Sherman, and the LifeLine Sanctuary. This home expands our capacity to support families on the journey to stable housing.

Several of you have asked about "housewarming gifts". If you would like to contribute something for the new home, suggestions include laundry soap, toilet tissue, or basic spices/seasonings.

AN EXPLOSION OF KINDNESS

You may recall from last month's newsletter that Travis Buckner, Manager of Public Affairs for Atmos Energy, presented Family Promise of Grayson County with a generous check to help us provide assistance to families struggling to pay their gas bills. We are stoked to share that he has done it again! Atmos' generosity warms our hearts and will help keep families cozy all winter! HUGE thanks to everyone at Atmos Energy for this powerful gift!

VOLUNTEER TRAINING

If you are interested in becoming a Family Promise volunteer, this is your lucky day! Training will be at First United Methodist church in Sherman on Sunday, November 9, from 12:30 to 2:30. Lunch will be provided, so please sign up in advance by calling Leigh at 903-771-0322 ext. 3, or click HERE, It will be fun and informative!

Speaking of volunteers, if you have ever thought you might like to serve on our Board of Directors, we are accepting applications at this time.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Community partnerships bring people together to tackle local challenges. This month we partnered with Habitat for Humanity and Cadence Bank to offer a class on saving money and spending wisely We are grateful to Jarod Dutton, Community Bank President - Cadence Bank, and Jeff Kincade, Cadence VP/Relationship Manager, for leading the discussion. Special thanks to Laurie Mealy, Executive Director - Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County, for hosting us.

We value our partnership with United Way of Grayson County, too! They recently hosted a volunteer fair with the Future Leaders of Sherman group. Members Hayden Fraley, Mattie Caldwell, and Kara Stacks were among those who volunteered. Among other projects, they assembled family binders for our Rotation shelter program.

We also partner with local Chambers of Commerce. The Sherman Chamber of Commerce recently stopped by to deliver a new door decal. We are grateful for these connections, as they help us create lasting positive change. Strong community partnerships not only improve individual lives but also strengthen the fabric of our entire community!

ON TARGET!

Thanks so much to those of you who participated in the Target Circle campaign! Because of you, Target donated over $1900 to us! This can pay our Day Center rent for a month, or can pay for insurance on our Tabitha House for a year. That is huge! Thank you again!

MID-AMERICA REGIONAL MEETING

Resource Advocate Kristi Shilling and Executive Director Leigh Walker recently attended the Mid America Regional Meeting held in Wichita, Kansas. It was a great opportunity to meet other Family Promise staff, see Family Promise of Greater Wichita's Day Center and offices, and to share ideas. We came away with new friends and pages of notes, and we already have implemented a few new practices!

GRACIOUS HOSTS

Many thanks to our October Host Congregations: First United Methodist church in Whitesboro, Grace Lutheran church in Denison, and Elmont Baptist church in Van Alstyne! These churches provided food, shelter, and love to the two sweet families currently in our Rotation program. Our guests are so appreciative of all the kindness they have been shown!

Reminder: If you are a Host Coordinator, you should have received an email with the sign up genius for the 2026 Host calendar. Please sign up ASAP, so you can get the dates you want, and so we can plan for the upcoming year. Thank you! If you have any questions, please contact Kristi (ext. 2) or Leigh (ext. 3) at our office: 903-771-0322.
