The story of our single mother Nina and her children is a story of perseverance.
One of the things that we at Family Promise North Fulton/DeKalb find in all our families is strength and perseverance. In the face of some of life’s most tough and trying circumstances, the stories of Family Promise families tell of incredible acts of families just like ours. The fight to keep your family safe, healthy, and together is one many of us can relate to, but when the obstacles become too difficult to face on your own, Family Promise is there. It takes strength to reach out and ask for help.
As a single mother, Nina fought hard to keep her and her children together. She fought hard to still be a wonderful parent to her kids despite difficult and exhausting situations. She fought to encourage them, to support them, and to make a better future for them. This family faced many difficulties before and even during the Family Promise program. When families come to us, their everyday problems do not just stop, however, families do find a community of people willing to help them carry those burdens. Throughout their time in the Family Promise program, Nina and her kids ran into many issues finding affordable housing in the area. Nina fought hard to persevere through those difficulties until she could find the right opportunity.

The wonderful thing about Family Promise is that it can be different things to different families when they need it. For Nina and her family, this opportunity was one to build a community with many of the coordinators, volunteers, and certainly the staff at Family Promise. Community means support and encouragement; it means friendship and connection to Nina and her kids. It can also mean opportunities and ideas! Many of Nina’s new community members were able to give introductions and help her make connections which became vital to her success!

Through the encouragement and empowerment given so readily to our moms, they are able to feel the support they need to advocate for themselves when necessary. During her time in the program, Nina was able to find, apply for, and be accepted into a program with the Roswell Housing Authority!
In December, Temple Beth Tikvah coordinator Sam Klein and the Family Promise staff helped Nina and her kids move into
their own apartment
in Roswell! We are so happy for her and her family in this new chapter of their lives!
During their time in Family Promise Nina and family were able to meet so many wonderful volunteers! Nina was able to save up funds as well as work on her own business that she could use as a secondary income. Her children had a community of kind, generous people helping with their homework, asking them about their days, sharing meals with them. In a scary and traumatic time, Family Promise surrounds families with comfort and support. And that is because of the time and talents of our volunteers!

We hope you all share in the joys of our families’ successes as much as we do! They are made possible by all of you!
It has been such a joy to have this family in the program! We cannot wait to continue to love and support them in their next steps!

Thank you so much to all who donated
gift cards, board games, toys, towels, slippers, pillows,
and
sheets
for our families this holiday season!
We were able to supply each of our moms with gift cards to purchase personal gifts to give to their children. What a wonderful feeling for our moms to be able to give their kids a special holiday!
|
We received enough gift cards to be able to give our moms the opportunity to get themselves a gift as well. They were truly surprised when they found little gift bags with their names on them under the tree on Christmas morning!
We were able to secure a donation of a few nice make-up and skin care products for them to open as well!
The kids each got stockings with little gifts from us at Family Promise, made possible by your donations!
