Summer is in full swing at the shelter! Our outdoor play area is a hot spot, with the turtle sandbox a fan-favorite destination. Our staff and volunteers were very intentional in setting up the area to accommodate a wide range of activities for all ages. It’s so heartening to see the kids riding their scooters and bikes around the lower parking areas under the ever-watchful eyes of their parents. Thank you to those who donated bike helmets that we could share with our guests! Our incredible, volunteer-designed-and-run “Summer Safari” thrice weekly educational sessions, along with our play areas, are offering the kids in our program the opportunity to be just what they should be—kids! Happy summer to all!

We are thrilled to share a heartwarming success story from our homelessness prevention program! Juliana, her husband, and their five children are enrolled in FPTV's homelessness prevention program. When they first met their FPTV case manager, the family was facing an eviction that would force them out of the home they had lived in for three years. With only eight days left before they had to leave their home, the situation was critical. Despite both being employed full-time, Juliana and her husband needed to quickly apply to, be approved for, and move into a new home. The family, working closely with their case manager, expedited the application process and received approval with just two days to spare. Additionally, our team successfully negotiated a few extra days of residence at their current home, allowing time for the new property to finalize the family's move-in process.

Thanks to these combined efforts, the family avoided homelessness. They are now focused on increasing their stable income, connecting with family support resources, and setting their sights on long-term stability. The FPTV team continues to provide ongoing case management to support the family's long-term goals. Your support makes success stories like this one possible—thank you!

Along with sunshine and warm weather, summer break brings engagement opportunities for our supporters. Join us this summer to volunteer for an enrichment activity, deliver a delicious cold treat, participate in summer Olympics night, and much more. All of these are sure to bring a smile and a joyful moment to you and guests in our program. During June’s bingo night, our mom-daughter duos volunteering with National Charity League commented, “Helping others is the best way to help yourself.” The mom added that she appreciated the “kindness, love, and enthusiasm we show for families in need.” We hope you enjoy the pictures from last Saturday’s bingo night. Please consider joining us in delivering SMILES that are as bright and warm as our approaching summer weather.

The opportunity to explore, learn, and imagine is provided each week in our Coco Club educational programming. Carol Greenough and her team of amazing educators make learning fun! In addition to assisting with homework, they provide a multi-faceted approach to learning. Activities this month included self-portraits, color by number Juneteenth pages, constructing bird feeders, and a building challenge. In our recent celebration of Father’s Day, 17 children gathered to make candy bouquets and cards for their important parental figures. It was a joyous end of the school year when one student made a notable skills “breakthrough” (a task that volunteers had been assisting with all school year) while completing their Father’s Day card.

Consider joining our dedicated team of volunteers! You will work hand-in-hand with our staff to help program families regain sustainable independence.
