Paradise Valley United Methodist Church
Family Sunday
As we look forward to the long holiday weekend, we invite you to worship with us if you're in town, and bring anyone who's visiting! Rev. Brenda Smith preaches the first part of our new worship series: Neighbors . It's a Family Sunday , so bring your elementary school children and youth with you to worship; there are no classes Sunday.
Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Jesus said the most important thing we do is love: love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. But sometimes loving neighbors is hard! You know how hard it is to love that neighbor with the barking dog. Or the guy down the street whose yard is often a mess and it leaves the neighborhood looking like people just don’t care.

We’re starting a new worship series on “Neighbors” that addresses important questions about love. Why do we love? What is Christian love as Jesus taught it to us? How do we love and who do we love? As Jesus shows us, learning to love our neighbors is not only essential...

BINGO Sunday - September 16
Join us for a game or two of Bingo in the Fellowship Center after worship on Sunday, September 16 . We’ll be playing Bingo from 11 am-1:30 pm or until the prizes run out! All winners will be awarded gift card prizes. We’ll have free pizza and childcare if you need it, but this is a family friendly event, and children are welcome! The Paradise Perk is open, 9 am-1 pm.

Sunday Worship at PVUMC
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church (PVUMC) invites you to worship with us this holiday weekend at 9:30 am in the sanctuary and at 11 am in the chapel. Download the 9:30 am bulletin here. The Ignite service at 11 am is bulletin-free!

See the website calendar at pvumc.org/calendar for all our children's, youth and adult classes meeting on Sunday mornings, during the week and all year long.

Pick up a new Looking Ahead in worship, read it on the website or download it here. The Looking Ahead bulletin insert includes our weekly calendar as well as highlights of upcoming events and programs. We also include weekly prayers of intercession.

The first Sunday of the month and September 9 are food donation Sundays for the 9/11 Multi-faith Food Drive. Please be generous!

Prayer Requests
Submit prayer requests using our online request form, email prayer@pvumc.org or call the church office at 602.840.8360. Your request will be shared with our 200+ list of prayer warriors on email. If you haven't been receiving prayers, and are already on the prayer team list, please make sure you add " prayer@pvumc.org" and our new prayer chain coordinator's email, " ddoran@pvumc.org" to your safe sender and recipient lists. To make sure the E-News gets to you, add " paradisevalleyumc@gmail.com" to your email list of safe recipients.
Saguaro Replaced at East Entrance
When you come to worship on Sunday, come in the east entrance and take a look at our "new" cacti. The Paradise Valley United Methodist Church Board of Trustees gave its approval for the removal of a dying saguaro on the west side of the east entrance and agreed to its replacement -- a healthy saguaro nearby, also on the church property. The replacement cactus saved the church thousands in expenses by not having to purchase a new saguaro. It looks great!
Celebrate International Missions
Please join Guatemala Medical Mission and Costa Rica Mission team members for a celebration of PVUMC international missions and its international mission partners in Guatemala and Costa Rica -- Salud y Paz and Hogar Metodista. The luncheon and celebration on Sunday, September 9 at 12:30 pm in the Fellowship Center will feature a Latin-inspired meal of pulled pork, rice and beans, salad, and dessert and a special guest from Hogar Metodista, Costa Rica. No tickets are necessary, but RSVPs encouraged by Sunday, September 2.
Job Opening: Children's Minister
The church seeks a part-time Children's Minister to oversee the childcare ministry, work with the Children’s Ministry Team to plan and lead Sunday School and coordinate special events like Vacation Bible Camp and the Easter Carnival. You will be expected to recruit and train volunteers for children's ministry programs. Contact Rev. Brenda Smith , 602.840.8360, ext 141, for a job description and/or to submit your resume or visit our website .
9/11 Multi-Faith Food Drive
The Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona (ISBA) and partnering organizations, including PVUMC, are organizing a multi-faith food drive for the 7th consecutive year. This event has demonstrated that the same spirit that drove the first responders and others to care for complete strangers on 9/11, is still alive by uniting people of all faiths to provide food for the most needy in our communities. Please donate on September 2 and on September 9.
You're Invited to Civic Academy and Meet the Candidates Events
On Tuesday, September 11 , VIP (Valley Interfaith Project) invites you to a Civic Academy to learn more about what we can do now that the Invest in Education ballot measure has been removed from the Arizona ballot. There is still a need for education funding. A Meet the Candidates session will be held on September 20 . Confirmed candidates in Legislative Districts 23 and 28 have been invited. Stop by the tables on the patio Sunday for more information or to sign up to attend.

Thank you for subscribing. Update your profile/ email preferences below.
