November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month

In recognition of Woman Abuse Prevention Month, Family Transition Place (FTP) is once again participating in the Wrapped in Courage campaign—an annual initiative developed and facilitated by the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses (OAITH).

The Wrapped in Courage campaign is an awareness-building initiative that encourages communities to wrap themselves in purple to show those who have experienced domestic violence they are not alone.

We invite individuals and businesses to show their support of this campaign by wearing a Wrapped in Courage purple scarf throughout the month of November in solidarity against domestic violence. You can purchase a purple scarf through our online shop—two styles are available. A limited number of purple ties and dog bandanas are also available. All revenue from the sale of these scarves supports our essential programs and services.

FTP is also coordinating flag-raising ceremonies and proclamations with local municipalities and will be sharing information about the Wrapped in Courage campaign throughout the month. Please visit our website for more information.

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women Vigil - December 6th

National Day of Remembrance vigil image

On December 6, 1989, 14 young women were horrifically killed at l’École Polytechnique de Montréal. They died because the man who killed them hated women.

FTP has hosted an event recognizing this day—the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women—every year, and we will continue to remember those lost on that tragic day. This year, we want to put words into action and develop practical ways for this community to come together to end violence against women.

We will share details of this year's event in the coming weeks on our website and social media channels.
