October is Women's History Month

October is Women's History Month! This year's theme: Women at Work: Economic Growth Past, Present and Future—honouring women who have led by example and inspired other women and girls to realize their full potential by pursuing careers across all industries including those in non-traditional fields.

Empowering Women with Coffee

As part of Women's History Month, celebrate the women in your life with an 8-ounce bag of Hope Women's Coffee. This coffee was produced by women from the Caldas region of Columbia and sold by our friends Mochaberry Coffee.

Each 8-ounce bag is $12—proceeds will support our essential programs and services.

Buy a bag today and help us empower the women and children we serve. Buy in-store (177 Broadway, Orangeville) or through our online store. NOTE: online orders will be fulfilled every two weeks.

Take Back the Night

Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year's Take Back the Night event—a community event uniting folks against sexual violence and gender-based violence. We're grateful to our event partners, Georgian College Orangeville Campus, for hosting the event at the Orangeville campus (22 Centennial Rd).

Thank you to: our guest speakers with lived or living experience for sharing their powerful stories and poems; staff and students at Georgian College for putting everything together at the campus; Dufferin OPP and members of the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) for speaking about the impact of violence against women in our community; Danielle and her emotional support animals; and those who participated in the awareness march. It's inspiring to see a group of people come together to support and empower survivors and speak up against violence of any kind.

Everyone should feel safe at all times. Take back EVERY night by wearing our exclusive Take Back the Night t-shirts–$25/each.

Recognition Plaque

Earlier this year, we announced the decision to no longer run Heidi's Walk for Hope—a legacy fundraising event, initially run by Penny and Gus Bogner as The Ferguson Memorial Walk in honour of their daughter Heidi Lee Ferguson (née Bogner). Heidi lost her life during a tragic domestic dispute on September 12, 2009. The Bogner family raised over $120,000 (2012–2019) supporting our largely unfunded youth education programs.

In recognition of their commitment to our work and in honour of Heidi, Gus, and Penny, we invited Gus and family members to our Orangeville office last week for a small ceremony unveiling a tribute plaque in our front garden.

While this may be the end of a fundraising chapter for us, we will always be full of love and gratitude for this family and the tremendous hope they have given this community.

Community Fundraising

Your friend, sister, neighbour, or coworker might be experiencing domestic violence and suffering in silence.

The Shoppers Drug Mart Foundation for Women’s Health is raising funds for organizations like FTP to support women facing gender-based violence through this year's #GivingShelter campaign.

You can help by donating at one of Orangeville's three Shoppers Drug Mart stores until October 4, or by visiting shoppersfoundation.ca.

What if an oil change could impact your community?

When your car is serviced at the Take 5 Oil Change Orangeville location, please mention Family Transition Place (FTP) and they will donate 10% of your bill to us in support of our programs and services.

This donation will NOT be an extra charge on your bill. Take 5 will generously donate 10% of your subtotal to FTP. And, after making this initial request, your vehicle will be automatically set up in their system to donate 10% of all future invoices to FTP.

If possible, please print a copy of this Take 5 sponsorship card and present it to the technician when you go for your next oil change.

We are beyond thankful to Take 5 Oil Change Orangeville for generously supporting us through this initiative. This is an incredible example of community supporting community.

November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month

In recognition of Woman Abuse Prevention Month, FTP will once again be participating in the Wrapped in Courage Campaign organized annually by OAITH. Activities will include local flag-raising ceremonies, proclamations and awareness-building updates through our website and social media channels.

We will also be selling a limited number of purple scarves (see above images)—"Courage" scarf (left) $20/each, handmade Merino wool scarf (right) $40/each. Both available versions of the Wrapped in Courage purple scarves can be purchased on our online shopping site.

By purchasing and wearing a purple scarf through the month of November, you are showing women who have experienced intimate-partner violence that they are not alone. Please make sure to follow our social media pages (see icons below) for ongoing announcements.

If you would like more information about the purple scarves or the Wrapped in Courage Campaign, please contact Kelly at 519-942-4122, ext. 243 or kelly@familytransitionplace.ca.
