Overdose Awareness Day Event

On Thursday, August 29th, the Dufferin-Caledon Drug Strategy Committee* hosted its annual Overdose Awareness Day Event in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day (August 31).

This year's event was held at Theatre Orangeville (87 Broadway) and featured a detailed overview on substance use and overdoses in our community (presented by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health [WDGPH]), stories of loss and hope from those with lived and living experience, and a panel discussion covering ways to support those using substances and changes we can make as a community to save lives.

The Brave Canoe closed the event with a powerful presentation honouring those who have been lost to overdose.

As a proud member of this committee, we would like to extend our thanks to Theatre Orangeville and FM101 Orangeville for their support of this event.

*The Dufferin-Caledon Drug Strategy Committee is a community group composed of like-minded agencies that are working together to support and coordinate the development and implementation of local, comprehensive, cross-sector strategies to reduce the harms related to substance use and/or addictive behaviours.

Take Back the Night

Join Family Transition Place and Georgian College as we Take Back the Night

In partnership with Georgian College (Orangeville Campus), Family Transition Place will be hosting a Take Back the Night event on Thursday, September 26th. Take Back the Night events have been taking place around the world in September for many years as a show of solidarity against sexual violence and gender-based violence.

This will be the third year this event will be hosted at the Georgian College Orangeville campus and we’re very proud to be partnering with them to raise awareness and provide information to this community about sexual violence and the local resources available.

This year’s event will feature guest speakers, information tables and an empowerment march (just over 1.5 km). Registration is not required.
