Senate Bill 1 is Signed

Governor DeWine signed SB 1 requiring one-half unit of instruction for financial literacy starting with students who enter high school beginning July 1, 2022. The study and instruction of financial literacy shall align with the academic content standards for financial literacy and entrepreneurship adopted under the Ohio Revised Code.

A classroom teacher who holds a valid educator license or endorsement that is required to provide instruction in Social Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Business Education shall not be required to have a validation prescribed under this section to provide financial literacy instruction under division (C)(9) of section 3313.603 of the Revised Code.

In addition, those approved Career-Technical Education, Family and Consumer Sciences programs can offer the Personal Financial Management CTAG. Students who pass the WebXam End-of-Course tests can receive 3 semester hours for any 2- or 4-year state university. To read the complete SB 1, click here.
