Regional Career Development Events
This weekend kicks off Regional competitive events. As a reminder to advisers all rubrics must be picked up the day of the event. Each site will hold an Awards Ceremony where participants will receive a rating medal. Once all of the chapter’s participants have been recognized the adviser may stop by the Tally Room to receive rubrics and stickers. Certificates will not be provided at the site but advisers may download the template here. Rubrics will not be mailed.

Adviser Expectations with Career Development Events
Importance of Chapter Advisers serving as judges for regional, state and national CDEs. Chapter advisers are subject matter experts in both Family and Consumer Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Training and FCCLA. As subject matter experts, they serve an important role in providing essential information about FCCLA, Family and Consumer Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Training curriculum, and Career-Technical Education to both members and other adult volunteers. Without chapter advisers serving as event volunteers, evaluation teams may lack critical context and subject matter information that could negatively impact final scoring.
Winners of the Nationwide Super Sleep Video Contest at Granville Middle School
Ten students in two Family and Consumers Sciences (FCS) classes at Granville Middle School, working in teams, entered two videos in the GENYOUth, Fuel Up to Play 60, and Sleep Number “Super Sleep Contest”. The winning team video for Ohio was produced by Justine Faith Robinson, and her teammates were Lille Gaubert, Faith Mate, and Dominic Maselli. The video team of Brady Rowe, Jack Brower, Megan Cumiskey, Eliot Alberry, Roxy Waggoner, and Sydney Ley were awarded Honorable Mention. Students in Barb Blatter’s FCS classes were given the assignment of creating a 90-second video that emphasized the importance of getting quality sleep each night, tips for removing sleep distraction from their rooms, the importance of sleep for teens, and suggestions for creating and sticking to a regular sleep schedule. In the video GMS students also were to voice the benefits of a good night’s sleep including better focus, concentration, and sports performance. The students used the WeVideo program to make, edit, and produce their Project Based Learning video entries for the contest. ( more Information)
