Botkins High School receive $1000
Congratulations! FCCLA is excited to announce that Botkins High School FCCLA has been randomly selected to receive $1,000 to thank you for your work in training over 75 youth in Taking Down Tobacco 101. A check for your chapter’s award will be sent directly to your school within the next three weeks.

Thank you for supporting FCCLA’s partnership with Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK), and for engaging FCCLA members in trainings that help them understand the dangers of tobacco use and how their voices can help their peers #BetheFirst tobacco-free generation.
Adviser Expectations with Career Development Events
Importance of Chapter Advisers serving as judges for regional, state and national CDEs. Chapter advisers are subject matter experts in both Family and Consumer Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Training and FCCLA. As subject matter experts, they serve an important role in providing essential information about FCCLA, Family and Consumer Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Education and Training curriculum, and Career-Technical Education to both members and other adult volunteers. Without chapter advisers serving as event volunteers, evaluation teams may lack critical context and subject matter information that could negatively impact final scoring.
Framework for Family and Consumer Sciences Information Sheets
The NASAFACS Board has created four, one-page information sheets around the Framework for FCS in CTE, which can be found here. There are three FCS-Related Sector Sheets as well as one overall Framework information sheet. These can be great resources as you help state and local CTE administrators understand the role of FCS Education in supporting Career Pathway initiatives and advocating for high-quality FCS Education program.

Sector Sheets for Family and Consumer Sciences:
Bowling Green Family and Consumer Sciences Education
Greetings from BGSU!!! For those of you I have not met, my name is Jeremy Nadler, and I am the newest teaching professor to the Department of Career Tech Workforce Development in the School of Teaching and Learning.

As many of you are aware, the Family and Consumer Science Program at BGSU has a long and rich history, graduating thousands of FCS teachers. In fact, programs now offered within the department began at BGSU during the early decades of the University, which was founded in 1910. As society and education changed, the program area not only remained current but led the way statewide and even nationally in various programs and curriculum.

Will you please help to identify our future FCS educators and encourage them to consider BGSU? We are continuing to experience a shortage of qualified teachers in our field, so please let your students know that job openings abound throughout Ohio and the United States.

I have attached a few materials that you may want to place in your classrooms and/or provide to students you feel will be great teachers, and be sure to send them to the BGSU website for additional information. Also, I would be happy to speak to your classes regarding the opportunities in Career Tech Education, so feel free to reach out to me to schedule a visit. Thank you for your time and consideration, and thank you for all you do for your students and CTE. (infographic Page 1 and Page 2 )
Apprenticeships
Guide Middle School Students in Career and Apprenticeship Exploration with New Materials

The U.S. Department of Labor has collaborated with Scholastic to release a new set of educational materials introducing middle school students, parents, and teachers to apprenticeships. This set of materials – including a student magazine, teacher guide, and classroom poster – builds upon the original educational program launched earlier this year and illustrates how apprenticeships can help students develop soft skills. It’s not too early for middle school students to start thinking about their future careers and learn how youth apprenticeship opportunities can serve as a foundation for jump starting a career. Visit Scholastic’s apprenticeship webpage to download the materials and apprenticeship.gov to learn more about youth apprenticeship programs.
