Begins this Sunday

You're invited!
Join your Christ Church family this Sunday as we kick-off our Family First Sunday programming.  The first Sunday of each month is designated Family First Sunday. We have developed a  special program designed to nurture faith and build connection to your faith and the parish community.  All families meet in the courtyard at 9:30 a.m.

There is an optional activity at 9:00 a.m. -  fun on the playground.* Parents may bring their children for supervised play time, and then cross the street to the church for a cup of coffee, or to attend the   Adult Forum held in Hinde Hall from 9:00-9:40 a.m.  Children from age 4-12 are invited to play on the play structure.

The professionally staffed nursery is open every Sunday, for children from birth to 3 years, from 7:45 -11:30 a.m. in Clare's Cottage

 *  The Christ Church playground is located behind Clare's Cottage. Enter through the open white gate at the right of the building.

Sunday Forums Return

Sunday forums
 are back!
Our Sunday forums have been on a summer hiatus and they have been missed. The forum returns this Sunday, September 9 with....

Ancestry.com - The Biblical Way
Got a looney aunt or uncle in your family tree? Did you inherit your grandfather's hairline or your mother's smile? Join us in Hinde Hall and discover who your biblical forebears are and just what you have inherited from them!

Parents drop your children off at the playground behind Clare's Cottage for supervised play, grab a cup of coffee, and come to the forum!

Sunday Sundae
I scream, you scream....

Yummers
Who doesn't love ICE CREAM? To
celebrate our Family First Sunday and another "new year" at Christ Church, everyone will have the chance to
build their own sundae after the 10:00 a.m. service.

ALSO,  we welcome the choir as they return to worship after their summer hiatus.

Quidditch Cup
This Friday
The Quidditch Cup (for middle and high school youth) is a diocesan-sponsored event, Saturday, September 8, at Balboa Park from 12:30-3:30 p.m. At this Harry Potter-themed sporting event, we will be meeting with youth groups from all over the diocese for an afternoon of ridiculous fun, and getting to know one another. We will meet in the Christ Church parking lot at noon to carpool to St. Paul's Cathedral. Drivers are needed for this event. Please RSVP to Charlette Preslar by Friday, September 7 if your youth would like to attend and if you are available to drive.

Sunday Supper
A parish family meal and worship
Sunday Supper September 23
5:00 p.m.
Some of the best moments of connection happen around the family dinner table. Deep questions and silly topics provide the opportunity to share pieces of ourselves with each other. Imagine having that same opportunity with your Christ Church Family.

This Fall, Christ Church is kicking off Sunday Supper, and you are invited! We will meet in Hinde Hall at 5:00 p.m. for a delicious meal that is sure to appeal to all ages. We will share the Word and prayers around the table and have communion as part of our time together. This comforting, engaging, and open experience is sure to become something you look forward to all month!

Flu Shot Clinic
Already?!?
Be a flu fighter!
Just so you know, while it might not feel like it, fall is around the corner; and flu vaccine time will be upon us. We will once again partner with Walgreens,  Sunday, September 30 to provide flu vaccines  at Christ Church. The clinic will be open from
8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Hinde Hall library. Most insurance companies cover the immunization and Walgreens now takes Tri-Care. They will offer the enhanced version as well for those 65+. There was a great turn-out last year, and we hope you'll take advantage of this convenient opportunity. Want more info on the vaccine - check out the facts at the Walgreens website.

Check the Box Sunday
Sunday, September 30
In the business of life, it is helpful to be able to take care of more than one thing at once. On Sunday, September 30th, you are invited to check some things off your list... while you are at church!

In the courtyard look for:
  • A voter registration table - If you have not already registered to vote in the upcoming November mid-term election, or you have moved, you can complete the necessary forms here.
  • An altar flower table - you can order Altar flowers for any specific Sunday of the year to honor, commemorate, and give thanks for someone or something special.
  • The Welcome Center - if you do not have a name badge be sure to fill out the form to order one. The cost is $10.
In the Hinde Hall library:
  • We will host our annual flu shot partnership with Walgreens. Most insurance companies cover this immunization, and Walgreens now takes Tri-Care. Those who are 65+ can now receive the enhanced version.
We hope that you will take advantage of this convenient opportunity to check a few things off your list.

Rev. Anne's Sermons

Transcripts of Sunday sermons are posted on the Christ Church web page, when available. We may not have every week and it might take a week to get them posted, but check the news section of the  home page to see if a copy is available.

It's time to do something good for yourself !
Relieve stress, renew, and rejuvenate

Outreach/Service Ministry
St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry
Increased need in summer
Bring granola bars and cereal this Sunday
Children are back to school and even though lunch programs may help, the need continues for low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes, and our neighbors on the street. When you grocery shop, please pick up a few extra items for St. Mark's. The food pantry helps supplement when resources are scarce.

Basic non-perishable items are always needed:  canned vegetables, beans (canned and dried, but not green), canned fruit, canned protein, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, oatmeal, rice, canned soups, pastas, chili, cooking oil, and single-serving items for their homeless guests.

You may bring your donations to church on Sunday or drop them by the parish office during the week.
