Libraries: Your Community Connectors - our series continues
Pennsylvania PBS stations collaborate with libraries across the Commonwealth. We shared some examples in the July newsletter and throughout this past summer, where we talked with librarians for our video series " Libraries: Your Community Connectors". We continue to learn about the importance of libraries in our interview with staff from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries (OCL).
"Libraries are a tremendous value, serving as a community anchor institution"
-Carrie Cleary, Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary for Libraries and State Librarian
Carrie Cleary is the Executive Assistant reporting to the Deputy Secretary for Libraries and State Librarian. She joined us for an interview, along with Corri Hines, the School Age Services Advisor, and Heather Smith, the Early Childhood Services Advisor- both with the Bureau of Library Development (BLD), part of the Office of Commonwealth Libraries (OCL)
Transformative Justice
"CARE Court is about inclusion, it's about welcoming people back after they've made mistakes in their lives and paid for those mistakes"
-Kris Hendrickson, Director of "A Call to CARE"
WVIA presents "A Call to CARE", a one-hour original film that explores the challenges former prisoners face when re-entering society upon release. The Court Assisted Re-Entry program (CARE) works to help individuals who have served their time as inmates start their new lives as fellow citizens in our communities. The film explores a sector of society, usually perceived via statistics, through a humane lens that emphasizes the personal testimony of those affected by circumstances that led them into a life of crime.
Family Fun with Your Learning Neighborhood
Your local Pennsylvania PBS station supports the learning needs of children and families throughout the Commonwealth, and we recognize that learning occurs everywhere: at home, at school, and in our communities!
Each month, we provide school standards-aligned activities that continue your child's learning. This month, we offer suggestions for spending time together in the "Winter Countdown Family Fun"!
This December, children can learn and celebrate the season with their favorite PBS KIDS programs, like "Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas", "Peg + Cat + Holidays" and "Arthur's Perfect Christmas"!
"Family Night" programs
"Family Night" programs are designed for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade and their families and caregivers. The programs provide an introduction to a variety of career paths along with hands-on activities that don't require special tools or a computer. The programs align with Pennsylvania curriculum standards.

Explore other career paths in "Family Night: Engineering" and "Family Night: Coding".
In "Family Night: Space" students learn about working together to solve problems, and meet people who are involved with space travel without traveling to space.
Holiday Special
Don't miss "A Charlie Brown Christmas"!
The holiday classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas" airs Sunday, December 19, at 7:30pm. Check your local Pennsylvania PBS station for ways to watch!
