November 8 election ballot includes Tacoma park and recreation maintenance levy

There's a proposition coming on the November 8 ballot - the Park and Recreation Maintenance and Operations Levy. 

Prop. 1 asks Tacoma voters to restore the regular property tax levy that funds nearly a third of Metro Parks Tacoma operations to its usual rate. The current rate has dropped to the 2009 level due to a funding formula set by the state. If approved, restoring the levy rate would provide funding to address the Park District’s increasing maintenance, operations, and security costs. 

Ballots will be mailed to voters on Oct. 21, and must be postmarked for return by Nov. 8.

Metro Parks Prop. 1 is the last item in the voter guide (page 31 of a 32-page guide) and the last item on the ballot. Don't forget to vote!

Candlelight Tour

Fort Nisqually Living History Museum

October 14-15: 6 - 9 pm

Campfires and candlelight provide illumination for this magical evening walking tour of Fort Nisqually Living History Museum. Guests eavesdrop as more than a hundred historical interpreters bring to life the men, women, and children of the Hudson’s Bay Company. This year, guests will arrive in October of 1857.

Hoot n' Howl

October 14-15 & 21-22: 5  - 9 pm (Friday & Saturday Nights)

Put on a costume and explore the park at twilight! Lights, animals and spookiness…oh, and candy too. Play games in the picnic pavilion, plus pumpkin checkers and tic tac toe…And snap those adorable spooky photos.

Kids in the Kitchen

(Age 8+) Learn how to create great-tasting eye-catching confectionaries in this pastry arts course on the science and art of baking. Follow through step-by-step recipes that can be made again at home. This is a family style class where parents/adult family members/guardians are encouraged to participate and join along in the fun.

Late Night is a FREE event for teens! Eastside and Norpoint are grades 6-8. People's is for grades 9-12. Join us for late night fun with your friends! We’ll have open gym, sports, activities, and much more.
