November National Adoption Month
Celebrating Forever Families
This month's forever family is an advocate and community leader in the faith based community. Family to Family recognizes Pastor Grant Combs of Seaside's Lighthouse Baptist church and his family as one of Family to Family's newest community partnerships! He and his wife, Tiffany, are long-time supporters of children and families in foster care. Mr. and Mrs. Combs first welcomed an 18 month baby girl, followed by a two-year old boy. Two years later, these two bundles of joy were finally adopted into the beautiful Combs family. Community liaison, Jalissa Preciado, had the pleasure of talking to Pastor Grant regarding their experience with foster/adoption services. Pastor Grant stated  " There were times we felt very hopeless and wondered if we could endure the ups and downs of life in the family court. There were lots of tears, many prayers and an incredible amount of support from the Kinship Center. That has been one of the biggest blessings in our adoption story. We have had our idea of 'family' completely redefined. We have biological kids and adopted kids, but we are all just family. There is plenty of room in all our hearts for each other. Our adopted kids have biological families, and if they are family to our kids then they are family to Tiffany and I too. There were times when we felt like our hearts couldn't take the process, but in the end, all that difficulty worked to expand our hearts to make room for those who began in different families but are now such a very special part of ours." The Combs family is a one great example of the many families providing forever homes to local children in foster care.

Bill Anderson of Anderlyn Desk Co. has graciously agreed to promote the need for additional safe and loving homes in Monterey County on their website ( www.anderlyndesk.com), as well as facebook, and through Mail Chimp. A campaign was developed as a joint effort with Family to Family titled " Do something healthy for yourself and your community".  When customers purchase an Anderlyn Standup Desk (size 48" x 24" x 10"), Anderlyn Standup Desk Company will donate $10.00 to Family To Family for each sale, as a community effort to support Adoptive and Foster Care Services in Monterey County.  This opportunity will apply automatically to each purchase in the Monterey County, California Region. For anyone outside Monterey County simply note in the comment section, when you order on our website (www.anderlyndesk.com) that you would like us to apply a $10.00 donation to Family To Family, Salinas California."

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District(MPUSD)has increased advocacy of children in foster care within their various school sites.  We would like to highlight Superintendent P.K. Diffenbaugh and all staff under MPUSD who have partnered with Family to Family to support our local foster children. They have allowed us to display  Family to Family posters at the various campuses in an effort to raise awareness for the needs of foster children and families in our communities.

We thank all of you for the contributions in supporting our local children in care and for working together to strengthening our community!
