2024 Fannie Angelos Gala
Was a Great Success!

There was a full house at the Fannie Angelos Program Annual Gala, held April 18 at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum.

Over 100 members of the local community gathered to mix, mingle and celebrate the program's longevity, impact and success. In addition to enjoying happy reunions with FAP and UBalt School of Law students and alumni, attendees were able to tour the museum's featured exhibits.
 
FAP Scholars and members of the graduating Class of 2024, Iyana Arrington, Paris Holmes and Adeiye Samura shared their reflections on the program's impact on their journeys to become lawyers. 
 
Keynote speaker Alicia Wilson, Esq., (pictured) managing director and head of global philanthropy for JPMorgan Chase, recalled the program's namesake, Fannie Angelos, and her legacy of stepping up to challenge and overcome obstacles in her path to success. Wilson reminded the audience of the importance of continuing to support the program, which aims to remove barriers to the legal profession for the next generation of lawyers.

Awards and Notable Achievements for the FAP Family
Several members of the FAP family were recognized at the law school's Annual Awards ceremony. Paris Holmes, Class of 2024, received a Dean's Citation for service. In addition to recognition of her recent victory in national finals of the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition hosted by the National Black Law Students Association, Iyana Arrington, Class of 2024, also received the Student of Merit Award from the Student Bar Association.
 
Last but definitely not least, Lenora Giles, center, the FAP's program longtime administrator, received the Rose McMunn Staff Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her significant contributions to the Fannie Angelos Program and its participants over the decade she has been working with the program. As one student wrote, "Ms. Giles exemplifies extraordinary commitment and service to the law school and its students." Giles will be retiring on July 1.
FAP Pre-Law Scholar Making a Mark

On May 1, University of Baltimore President Kurt Schmoke recognized Sabrina Pereira, a Legal Studies student and member of the Class of 2025 for her nomination to the 2024-25 cohort of Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellows.

Schmoke noted Pereira is active in student government as well as in several other clubs and organizations. She is president of the International Student Association and the Sports Club, and she is part of the University's NextGen Leaders for Public Service program. She also serves as UBalt's NextGen Ambassador with the Volcker Alliance.
