A FAIR BALLOT MEASURE IN 2026
Thank you for joining us!
We had a great lunch meeting with more than eighty-five of Pasadena's housing providers on Friday March 28th. Thank you for your continuing support and generosity.
Our first speaker was Dr. Helen Morales, Director of the Pasadena Rent Stabilization Department. We’d like to thank her for joining us and answering questions on how landlords can serve on the Pasadena Rental Housing Board.
There are two seats that could be filled by landlords this May, with compensation of $45/hour for twice-monthly meetings and preparation time.
It's vitally important that landlords join the Board and insure a balance of practical experience and informed opinions. We understand the need for tenant protections. But if the continued bias and anti-landlord regulations force us to sell our properties, Pasadena will lose affordable housing.
Following Dr. Morales' input, we covered several topics that matter to rental housing providers.
-
Applying for upward rent adjustments to make a fair return on your investment. There are serious problems with the spreadsheet that the Rent Stabilization Department has developed, but we are working to resolve this.
-
The impact that Measure H is having on the property market: lowering property values (and tax assessments) and increasing the number of owners who are selling and removing affordable apartments from the market.
-
Progress on the California Apartment Association's lawsuit against Measure H, which will reach the appeal courts later this year.
-
Our new financial structure, which will allow you categorize some of your generous contributions to us as a business expense. More details next week.
-
Recent voting patterns that give us an opportunity to restore democratic oversight to rental regulation in Pasadena
-
A fair ballot measure for Pasadena in 2026. With the generous donations we've received so far, we're over halfway to our fundraising goal of $30,000 by May.
We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting in July. Your ongoing support enables us to continue to keep you informed on upcoming issues like the structure of the Rent Board and how to stay compliant in the constantly shifting regulatory climate.
