Fantasy Sports Update
The "Fantasy Doctor" Is In!

Let the "Fantasy Doctor" keep all of your teams in shape throughout the season. In this newsletter, you'll find important injury news and notes on some key fantasy players around the sports world.

Top Notes

Bills lose backs: Spiller (collarbone) and Jackson (groin) both go down

What happened: It was a tough week for running backs in Buffalo as C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson were both forced out of Sunday's game against the Vikings.

Player/team outlook: Spiller is done for the season while Jackson will likely miss a month. The Bills turn to their deep backups to try and stay in the playoff race.

Fantasy recommendation: Hold on to Jackson if you can, as he could be an important player during fantasy football playoffs. Spiller should be dropped in all one-year leagues. RB names to look for on the waiver wire include: Tre Mason (Rams) Anthony Dixon (Bills) and Denard Robinson (Jaguars).

Can't count on Calvin: High ankle sprain keeps Johnson on the bench

What happened: A few weeks back, Johnson sustained a high ankle sprain and hasn't played since.

Player/team outlook: Johnson's injury has been a major blow in the fantasy game as he was the top WR to be drafted in every format. Detroit's offense, which hasn't put up a lot of points, desperately needs him on the field.

Fantasy recommendation: The Fantasy Doctor has indicated for weeks that Johnson should be relegated to the bench as his injury takes time. Expect Johnson to skip this week's game, which is followed by a week off for Detroit.

Kevin Durant down: Jones fracture forces superstar to sideline

What happened: Durant underwent foot surgery to repair a Jones fracture in his right foot. It's estimated he'll miss anywhere from 15-25 games and he hopes to return by December.

Watch the Fantasy Doctor perform a Jones fracture surgery.

Player/team outlook: It's never good when one of the elite players in the game goes down for any length of time. Luckily, the Thunder still have Russell Westbrook, who needs to dominate during Durant's absence.

Fantasy recommendation: For those still drafting, it's hard to let Durant slip past the second round. Yes, he'll miss a big portion of the fantasy season, but when he returns he could be the best fantasy option in the entire game.

Eric Staal hopes to rev up again soon (upper body injury)

What happened: Staal has played just two games for the Hurricanes this season, but has a good chance to return to the lineup very soon.

Player/team outlook: Staal registered two points (1 G, 1 A) in the two games he played and is known to get off to quick starts. Carolina needs its top line center back on the ice as it has struggled out of the gate.

Fantasy recommendation: His late season fade dropped him on many draft boards this offseason and his injury devalued him even more. If you're looking for a temporary quick fix, get him now as his stock is down and he does play better early in the season.
