NewSchools,
I recently wrote about the importance of continuing to make big, long-term bets in education, and to put words to action, I’m thrilled to introduce you to our 2022 ventures, who have been added to the venture roll call on our website. This year NewSchools is investing $45M in 141 different organizations, with 76% of those dollars going to ventures led by people of color. We look forward to sharing more about these organizations in the new year, with Frances Messano leading the discussion as our new CEO.
What’s next for me? First, rest. Then, I’ll look forward to starting my term as a director on the NewSchools Board next July. Frances and the team are going to do great things, and it’s my privilege to continue supporting and advising the work.
Thank you all—and a special thanks to our innovators—for one of the most rewarding chapters of my career. I am so proud of the legacy we’ve upheld at NewSchools for twenty five years: a place for new ideas to be heard, seen, and brought to life, all in service of creating better opportunities for our nation’s students.
