THE REAL MVPs
WP managers that are doing it and doing it and doing it well
|
|
|
|
Justin Gehrmann
Director of WP Bar Program
|
Master of his cocktail craft and our fearless leader behind the bar. Justin has been slinging cocktails and managing our bar program since we opened in late 2017. In fact, he was one of our first official hires!
Maybe not the most "humble brag" but we have, without a doubt, the best cocktails on the Coast and we can thank Justin and his team for that distinction!
Just as an example of his greatness

Another All-Star from day one, Mike has been with us from the very beginning!
Do you love our delectable house-made bread or enjoy indulging in our post dinner dessert treats? You've got Mike to thank for that!
***
If that's not enough, Mike is also an incredible craftsman. He makes all sorts of cool stuff including wooden spoons, cutting boards and his patented Tongula! Chances are your food is either cooked with or served on some of his creations. If you've got a chef in the family or just anybody that enjoys cooking, all of his awesome stuff is available on his website!

Michael Sigafoose
Front of House Manager
|
"Sig" can best be described as full of patience, people skills and just all around pleasant to be around. Michael joined the team last summer and we are so thankful for him.
Not only is he great with our treasured guests, (and our less than treasured guests) but he is just a nice a$$ guy. Pictured here, in his natural ever-smiling state.

|
|
"Dan the Man" is one of the newest additions to our manager line up and has already made a big impact managing the line at night. He has worked every station in the kitchen and is an incredibly hard worker
You can almost always count on him for a kind word, well-timed joke, words of encouragement and just an all around good attitude.

we nixed lunch service
and to be honest, we're not sad about it!
|
Austin said it best on his WP Instagram announcement.
We wanted to take a second to let everyone know that we will be discontinuing our lunch service for the foreseeable future. We have put a lot of thought into this decision and want to thank everyone that came and ate lunch with us over the past two years! There were many factors that went into our decision, but most importantly we felt that the constraints of a “lunch menu” did not allow us to be true to who we are and want to be as a restaurant. We are excited to be able to recommit ourselves to providing an incredible Coastal dining experience and use the extra time to be able to add on some super cool new dinner menu items.
PS - he has stayed true to this pledge. Just in the last week Chef has added 6 new dinner menu items that all of you should come get ASAP!
We will continue to offer Sunday brunch and private lunch events! Shoot us an email if you are interested in booking special events!

White Pillars Lounge
Full of history, from the room, the artwork, to the bar itself
|
|
The Mahogany Bar in the WP Lounge
|
The mahogany bar inside the lounge came from Pete Martin’s Magic Door Lounge in downtown Biloxi. The mahogany bar was originally a fixture in the iconic Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. “The Hotel of Presidents,” this historic Chicago hotel has hosted several heads of state, from Teddy Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter. The Astors, Rockefellers, and Vanderbilts were also frequent visitors, as were such revered icons as Lena Horne, Nat King Cole, and Rudolph Valentino. The hotel also had a notorious streak, favored by legendary mob bosses “Lucky” Luciano and Al Capone who all probably sat at our very own bar now inside White Pillars.

Folkes Family & French Doors
|
Dr. Hyman McMacken Folkes, was the physician who established the first sanitarium along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, called the Biloxi Sanitarium. Dr. Folkes’ contributions to the medical community and the health and welfare of the Mississippi Gulf Coast were important and significant. Dr. Folkes married Teresa Lopez, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lazaro Lopez of Biloxi, on You can see a picture of them on their honeymoon in Niagara Falls on the south wall of the lounge. In 1905 they completed contruction house was constructed of solid masonry and hand-made brick. During their lifetime, the Folkes referred to their new home as Gunston Hall.
There are several sets of French style doors on the East side of the lounge. These doors came from the Ursuline Convent in New Orleans and are over 150 years old.
*Fun fact- In the original White Pillars, these doors led out onto an open air terrace. It wasn't until the Mladinich family renovated in 2012 that they closed it in to make the dining room which we now call the "Terrace Room!"
|
One of the oldest pieces of history at White Pillars is the nearly 300 year old Dutch painting of a semi-nude woman who has overlooked the White Pillars bar since its existence. You can see her today hanging on the north wall of the lounge.
Though many joke that she is Austin's great great great grandmother, the truth is, we don't know exactly who she is. The artist did not sign the painting, so dating it is a bit tricky. An art appraiser noted that the painting favors the style of Sir Joshu Reynolds. If it was truly the work of Sir Joshu Reynolds, it would mean that it was likely painted somewhere between the years 1740 – 1780!
