Do you know a food and farming champion?
Submit your nomination for the Food & Farming Champion Award.
This annual award is presented to individuals, organizations or businesses who have taken the initiative to help engage consumers about agriculture in our province.
Nominees must have used their skills to help inform Canadians or correct misinformation about production practices, and have done a measurable job of promoting agriculture.
Nominations must be submitted to FFCO by March 20, 2021.
A selection committee will choose a winner from the nominations, and the award recipient will be honoured at the Virtual Conference and Speakers Program on April 6, 2021.
- Nominations are open to any who have taken an active role in getting the message out about agriculture.
- A nominated individual or group does not have to be a member of Farm & Food Care Ontario to be eligible.
- Nominations will be accepted from all Farm & Food Care Ontario members, as well as the current board of directors. Board members themselves, however, are not eligible for nomination.
- Members may nominate more than one individual, organization or business.
- A panel will select the award winner(s).

Canada’s Agriculture Day is back!
Canada’s Agriculture Day is a time to showcase all the amazing things happening in the industry and help consumers see the connection to where their food comes from and the people who produce it.
Join us on Tuesday, February 23 as we raise a fork to the food we love.
Here are just a few ways you can get involved:
- Post a photo, make a video, or write a blog. Share what you’re doing on social media using the
-
hashtag #CdnAgDay.
- Encourage your friends to show-off their culinary talents using all-Canadian ingredients.
- Teach someone something new about agriculture. Share your knowledge and story with others.
These ideas are only suggestions – come up with your own ways to share your passion for ag and inspire others to join the conversation.

Meet our members - Janelle Caldwell & Matt Cardiff
We are individual members of Farm & Food Care Ontario because we believe in the importance of bridging the knowledge and cultural gap between farmers and consumers.
We, along with consumers, share similar values such as caring about the environment and animals, thinking about food quality/safety and trying to do what is right for the world. The resources and events that FFCO produces work towards engaging with consumers to earn trust in how food is produced.
Many large farm organizations are members of FFCO, but we see value in supporting personally on a smaller scale because farmer involvement and helping to tell our own stories is key to earning consumer trust. Our story is a little bit unusual as Matt grew up on a farm with pigs and field crops while I grew up in the suburbs of Winnipeg, Calgary and Hamilton. We have since combined our very different worlds as we embark on a life together on our very own cash crop farm while we also work off-farm in the feed and table egg industries.
There are so many amazing stories to be told about farming and agriculture. I can speak from experience in saying that these stories sure resonate with urban followers just like they did with me several years ago. Most consumers do not have farmer friends or family to ask questions therefore it is up to FFCO and the entire ag community to engage consumers in these conversations about where food comes from and why it is produced in certain ways.
Janelle Caldwell and Matt Cardiff (Brussels, Ontario)
