Highlights from FFCO's second Breakfast from the Farm

The Lindsay Agricultural Society and Lindsay Exhibition partnered with Farm & Food Care Ontario (FFCO) to host Breakfast from the Farm at the fairgrounds in Lindsay, Ontario on August 28.

1,200 guests in 350 cars viewed displays of livestock and farm equipment, meeting and asking questions of socially distanced, local farmers, and receiving a contactless pick-up of a breakfast bag. The breakfast bag featured all the ingredients needed to make a delicious, all-Ontario breakfast at home, including pancake mix, milk, maple syrup, eggs, mushrooms, onions, cheese, beef jerky, butter, and more. Bags also included resources like The Real Dirt on Farming.

Breakfast from the Farm attendees had the chance to ask farmers questions throughout the drive-through.
Following the event, participants were encouraged to participate in farm trivia and a survey about their experience, where most respondents indicated that they would attend a Breakfast on the Farm event hosted by FFCO again.

Helping host was 40 farmer volunteers. Farm & Food Care Ontario would like to thank the volunteers, our partner organizations, and all of our event sponsors, which can be viewed here.

Meet a Silver Member: Heartland Farm Mutual

Heartland was established in 2016 as a result of the amalgamation between North Waterloo Farmers Mutual Insurance Company (established 1874) and Oxford Mutual Insurance Company (established 1878), and just this year amalgamated with the Kings Mutual Insurance Company of Berwick, Nova Scotia. Heartland offers home, farm, automobile, and business insurance through brokers and agents in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Heartland is the second-largest insurer in the group of companies known as farm mutuals in the Province of Ontario.

With so much of Heartland’s history founded in the rural and agricultural sector, it seemed a natural fit to partner with Farm & Food Care Ontario. The advocacy and education that Farm & Food Care provides for farmers and the general public, fits very well with Heartland’s commitment to the agriculture industry. The unique services that Farm & Food Care provides, such as training for first responders on how to better understand incidents that may involve livestock in transit, is just one example of many.

We are very pleased to support Food & Farm Care Ontario, and are excited to support the creative and important ways they are contributing to our agricultural industry!
