Apply For Crop Quality Loss Program By April 9
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has extended its original deadline for Quality Loss Adjustment (QLA) Program applications to April 9. 

This program assists producers who suffered crop quality losses due to qualifying 2018 and 2019 natural disasters, such as Hurricane Michael.
USDA Specialty Crop Grant Applications Due May 3
The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries (ADAI) is accepting grant applications for projects that enhance the competitiveness of U.S. specialty crops in foreign and domestic markets. Applications are due May 3.

Progress Continues On Alabama Farm Center
The Clanton City Council voted unanimously March 8 to transfer 500 acres to the Alabama Agriculture and Exhibition Center Cooperative District, clearing way for site preparation for the Alabama Farm Center at Alfa Centennial Park.

Federation Area Organization Director David Heflin serves as chairman of the cooperative district board.

  • Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell was elected to the Farm Bureau Bank board of directors.

  • Coastal Growers LLC held a groundbreaking March 10 in Atmore. Its new peanut shelling facility is an $87-million investment, will employ more than 150 people and has more than 100 farmer-stakeholders.

  • Alabama Farm Credit is sponsoring the Alabama Farmers Federation's Youth Leadership Conference. The conference is April 29-30 at the 4-H Center in Columbiana. Register a ninth or 10th grader here.

Order Still Farming Prints By March 31
The Alabama Farmers Federation is taking orders for its Still Farming commemorative centennial print through March 31.

Individual prints are $12 each, including shipping. Bulk order prints (10-plus prints) are $10 each and will be delivered by Federation area organization directors.
