Down on the Farm Breakfast is Oct. 19
It's harvest time, and Hansen's Dairy will be sharing our bounty of local food with our fourth annual Down on the Farm Breakfast.

The event will be Saturday morning, Oct. 19, 2019, at the Hansen's Tour Center, 8461 Lincoln Road, Hudson. To accommodate more visitors, there will be two serving times: 8 - 9:30 a.m. and 10 - 11:30 a.m.

Tickets are on sale now online. Attendees MUST purchase tickets before the event; tickets will not be sold at the breakfast. Adults are $12; children ages 5-12 are $6; and children 4 and younger are free.

Please plan to arrive during your scheduled serving time, then jump on the trolley to the farm after your meal for more activities and to see our cows, kangaroos and goats. No matter the serving time slot, attendees may stay as long as they like until the event ends at 12:30 p.m.

The all-Iowa menu includes all-you-can-eat homemade pancakes with syrup from Great River Maple in Garnavillo; ham from Webster City Custom Meats; sliced apples from Beck's Orchard in Buckingham; yogurt parfaits from Country View Dairy in Hawkeye and O'Brien's Own Gourmet Granola in Center Point; ; cornbread muffins with honey from Tim Laughlin in Grundy Center; coffee from Sidecar Coffee Roasters in Waterloo; apple cider from Wilson's Orchard in Iowa City; and, of course, Hansen's milk, cream and butter.

Oct. 7: MARIBETH - Maribeth's treat is  reminiscent of summers gone by: our Black Raspberry Malt. Made with vanilla ice cream, homemade black raspberry topping and malted milk - topped with classic whipped cream and a cherry - it's sure to bring some fond memories to mind! Small, $3.99

Oct. 14: IZZY - Izzy is busy living the college life, and when she gets tired, our Caramel Macchiato Shake is her pick-me-up! Coffee ice cream, caramel, and vanilla extract blended in a small shake and topped with whipped cream and more caramel is sure to keep anyone going! (P.S. Oct. 21:  SARA Sara's favorite is also one of our top-selling Treats of the Week! The Banana Creme Dream is a small shake made with vanilla ice cream, a banana, and pieces of waffle cone, then topped with whipped cream and a bit more waffle cone. It's Banana Cream Pie in a cup!
Small, $3.99

New research: Milk is best drink for hydration
New research from St. Andrews University has shown that milk is the best drink for hydration ... even beating out water and sports drinks.

Milk has been called nature's most perfect food, because it has the perfect combination of vitamins, minerals, protein, sugar and fat for optimal nutrient absorption. And it actually exists in nature ... what's more natural than that? So drink up, and  read the full article from CNN here.

Customer of the Month
Jessica Selleck and fiance
The October Customer of the Month is  Jennifer Sommerfelt  of Waterloo.

Jennifer has been buying Hansen's Dairy products for so long, she can't remember exactly when she and her family were first introduced to them.

"We like the products because they are made locally, don't use growth hormones and taste amazing," she said.

They typically buy the milk from Fareway and stop into the Kimball Avenue store to get ice cream with their kids.

"We get ice cream as a surprise, and they always scream with excitement when they hear we are getting Hansen's Dairy ice cream!"

Thanks, Jennifer! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $24 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
CowoftheMonth Cow of the Month
We're highlighting two sets of twin sisters for our October Cows of the Month.

Twins are fun to watch, because they have a tight bond. They can frequently be found doing the same activities at the same time. We even find them standing in the correct order, which is great for photos :)

Luke and Leia (shout out to Star Wars) just turned 3 in July. These two are identical twins, and they have similar markings - mostly white faces with some black eye patches. They were born out of Lala, herself a twin with a sister named Loopsy.

Lego and Land just turned 2 in June. These two are fraternal, and their mother's name is Looker (but not a twin).

None of these four cows stand out in terms of milk production, but all four are nice to work with and bring smiles to our faces when we see them eating, lying down or milking together.

By the way, we always name the daughters born on our farm with the same letter as their mother's name.  The letter L is probably our most prolific. In addition to these two sets, plus Lala and Loopsy, we also have Longitude and Latitude, and Lois and Lane. And, the triplets we had in May are Livalot, Lafalot and Luvalot. Whew!

This recipe can be made quickly on the stovetop or slow-cooked for a perfect warm dessert on those chilly fall nights or while tailgating. Enjoy!
