As part of the Vermont Farm to School & Early Childhood Network, we’re sharing a few ways that you can help celebrate this collective work in October. See upcoming opportunities to connect with the Network, resources for sharing the impacts of your work, ways to deepen community connections, and more.

Meet the Leaders
Transforming School Meals

School nutrition professionals, educators, and farm to school coordinators nationwide joined the Shelburne Farms Farm to School Leadership Academy to reimagine school meals with fresh, local food and stronger classroom-community connections.

Students cooked alongside Shelburne Farms chefs as they prepared for the Jr. Iron Chef VT competition last winter. Try their vibrant hot sauce with your next pepper harvest, and sign up for this year's competition.

Grant Opportunities

Applications are open for key state and national grants supporting farm to school:


The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets' Farm to School & Early Childhood Grant ($10–30K) helps Vermont early childhood providers and schools strengthen programs that integrate the classroom, cafeteria, and community. Applications due October 29.


The USDA Patrick Leahy Farm to School Grant Program ($100–500K) is designed to increase the availability of local foods in child nutrition programs operations and connect students to to where their food comes from through hands-on learning. Applications due December 5.
