Farm to Table

FaithWorks in Action:

A Place at the Table for Every Neighbour

Around the holidays, many of us gathered around tables filled with warmth and tradition — but for too many in our city, there’s little to put on them.

Flemingdon Park Ministry (FPM), a long‑time FaithWorks ministry partner, is responding with purpose through Farm to Table — a new cooking and food literacy program designed especially for newcomers facing isolation, language barriers, and the rising cost of food.

Over the next year, FPM will deliver 24 hands‑on cooking sessions, each featuring nutritious, culturally rooted meals from Afghan, Iranian, Iraqi, Slovakian, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, and Ukrainian traditions.

Participants receive:

  • Fresh ingredients — many grown at FPM’s Common Table Urban Farm
  • Kitchen kits to cook confidently at home
  • Translated recipes and learning materials
  • Bus fare so transportation isn’t a barrier
  • Guidance from newcomer cooks, whose leadership is honored and supported

These gatherings nourish much more than bodies. Participants practice English, build confidence, learn budgeting and math skills — and most importantly, feel a sense of belonging.

“I made a soup with squash I had never used before. My kids ate it all! Now I try new things and feel more brave in the kitchen and outside. I want to keep learning.”— participant

The need is urgent. 1 in 4 Canadians now live in a food‑insecure household — and demand for support in Flemingdon Park continues to rise.

This past year alone, FPM:

  • Welcomed 13,000 visitors to its new drop‑in space
  • Provided food support to 3,840 seniors
  • Engaged nearly 2,000 volunteers, many of whom are newcomers serving their own community

Farm to Table is the next step in this vital work — turning fresh produce into shared learning, joy, and hope. FaithWorks donors make this possible.

Flemingdon Park Ministry is seeking $38,000 to launch the program in full. Your generosity will help ensure every participant has a seat at the table and the confidence to thrive beyond it.

Join FaithWorks'

30th anniversary campaign!

The 30th anniversary campaign is turning to Jesus’ miracle of the feeding of the multitude for inspiration and guidance. We are being reminded, as “Jesus fed the multitude, now it’s our turn to help.” We are being challenged to “give extra for food.”

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, FaithWorks hopes to provide extra help to parish food insecurity programs. Any extra funds raised beyond the annual goal of $1.5 million needed to meet our ongoing commitments will be set aside for parish food insecurity programs.

To realize this hope, we are asking 100% of parishes to participate in this anniversary campaign by setting a fundraising goal that exceeds their 2025 FaithWorks contribution by at least 1% of their overall offertory amount

100 + 1%.

We invite you to take up the challenge!
