Summer Adventures: Good Food and Fun!
GardenShare is teaming up Caitlyn Boreyko, director of the Canton Recreation Department, to create Summer Adventures, a free recreation program for Canton youth. This six-week program for children ages 6 to12 will teach participants about healthy food, family, and the environment among other topics.

In addition to interactive programming, this program will be provide healthy lunches to its participants. Currently 42% of Canton school children receive subsidized lunches during the school year, however, there is not a similar program during the summer. Summer Adventures will be able to provide a healthy meal to those who need it along with fun, educational programming.

GardenShare is searching for someone to make this program possible as a Summer Food and Volunteer Coordinator. More information on this  paid position can be found here

Farmers Market Season Begins!
  • Canton's famers market opens on Friday, May 11, and will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm at the Village Park.
  • Potsdam's market opens on Saturday, May 12, and will be open every Saturday from 9 am to 2 pm at Ives Park.
The markets in Gouverneur and Hammond open in June and Massena opens in July.

As the ground thaws and spring really begins here in the North Country, farmers are starting to plant their crops. While produce may not be plentiful in the early weeks, these markets provide a great chance to see local farmers after a long winter hiatus and purchase other local goods.

Remember that debit, credit, and SNAP EBT cards are welcome and if you shop with your SNAP benefits GardenShare will increase your buying power.
Give Mom's Planting a Boost!
Looking for something fun and different for this year's Mother's Day? For a $20 donation to GardenShare, we will send your mother a cute little GardenShare "seed tree" - made of paper embedded with carrot seeds. Mom just needs to "plant" the paper tree and wait for her carrots to sprout!

To make a donation and provide necessary mailing information contact office@gardenshare.org or 315-261-8054.
