Into Every Market a Little Rain Must Fall

Okay, so maybe it's a lot of rain. But nevertheless our farmers, bakers, and makers are pulling on their galoshes and making the trek to market this Saturday. We hope you'll do the same. Grab your umbrella and your market bag and get your weekly fill of fresh and local. Fieldstone is back this week with steaming hot coffee and tea, and Sycamore Grill will be firing up the grill for breakfast sandwiches to get your morning off to a good start.

We'll be offering rainy day double punches on the rewards card, and $3 off all hoodies. And we promise you there will even be some singin' in the rain!

Although we try to make light of the rain, it really is brutal on some of our farmers. Take a look at this video from Blooming Glen Farm.

Spring Recipes:
Beet Fried Rice (vegan)

"Though this rice has the flavors what you’d expect from fried rice — namely nutty sesame oil, and the pungent robust flavor of salty soy sauce — they are subtle and secondary to the bold beets. It’s summer meets comfort food. Farmers market meets classic takeout.
And it’s divine."

Farmers Market Talk, Maine Food, Recipes By Sarah Walker Caron

You'll find beets and scallions this week at Salvaterra's Gardens.

Salvaterra's Gardens
Cooking Green Special!
All this rain hasn't hurt Salvaterra's! Look for spring mix, arugula, spinach, red leaf, green leaf and romaine lettuce. There's crunchy bok choy and scallions for stir fries, and fresh herbs like parsley, dill, and cilantro (tacos anyone?). Red, green, and Tuscan kale are all in abundance now along with, collards and chard. Hakurei turnips are here this week (SO sweet and delicious when roasted)! If you're a radish fan, there's traditional red radishes and the mild French Breakast variety too. Oh and don't miss the beets!

Mix and match, collards, chard and any variety of kale - 1 bunch $3, 2 bunches is $5 and 3 bunches is $6. *At three bunches Salvaterra's will be about $1 cheaper per bunch than certified organic greens in the grocery store!
