Worship on the Beach @ 8:30 & 9:30 am
Eva B. Ross is in from CA to do shows in the Chicago area this weekend and we were fortunate enough to have her say "yes" when Ken Hall gave her a call about singing Sunday @ the Beach. Eva will be accompanied by Emmy Award winner Steve Rashid. Tom will share his own journey to faith and ministry - so, it will be more of a story than a traditional sermon. And, he'll also sing "New Old Spice" written for his father.
Join us Sunday and why not bring a few pals!
7:45 am - meditation on bluff
8:25 am - communion

Annual Beach Picnic - Sunday, June 30
Our Annual Worship on the Beach Picnic will be held Sunday, June 30. The service will feature a message by Tom and special music giving us a Caribbean Beach feel by Steel Drum Master Joe Sonnefeldt and his four-player band which includes Ken Hall on Marimba Lumina. There will be ONE SERVICE at 10:00 am followed immediately by the picnic at 11:00 am. We provide the burgers and hotdogs and plates and drinks - we hope you'll bring whatever sort of food you'd love to share! Please tell us if you can join us by signing up HERE (ps - though the picture looks like something from Norman Rockwell, it is a real image from our beach picnic 3 or 4 years ago)
Three Messages From the Land of Zach:
Garden(s), Podcast & Work Trip
The Community Church has not one, but two vegetable gardens! The big garden is a cooperation with Lake Forest College located behind The Glen Rowan House (500 Sheridan, Lake Forest--across the street from the chapel).
The office garden is located at the Jessen Office Building (117 E. Scranton Lake Bluff) in the alley behind the building. Dylan Burns built the terraced garden for his Eagle Scout project.
All of the produce (organic) from the gardens will be donated to Beacon Place for distribution to those who don't typically have the opportunity to buy healthy produce.
If you’d like to get involved in the garden (and we’d love to have you involved) contact Zach Hancock by work email or text/call 970-347-7457
Babbling Bohemian Podcast
If you haven’t already done so, take a listen to the Community Church’s new podcast: Babbling Bohemian. You can find it on any Podcast App by searching for Babbling Bohemian—look for the Dancing Bohemian logo. For more information or to listen via the Community Church website HERE .
2019 CCLFLB Service Trip
On June 17th—21st, 12 courageous high school youth and 4 plucky chaperones are making the journey to Flint, MI to do service work--we’re looking forward to the trip and sharing our experience when we return.
We will be staying and working through The Firestone Center in Flint. Some of the fun things and service things we will be doing include: Camping at the Indiana Dunes State Park the first night, sampling the world-famous Flint-style Coney Dogs, serving at a food bank, c learing debris & boarding up vacant homes, sharing dinner & conversation with local business leaders & politicians in the Flint community, and drinking our water from a big jug we buy at Costco!
Next week’s newsletter will tell a bit of our story through pictures & video! Remember to keep us in your prayers...
Net Gain Game Benefitting Inner-City Chicago Student Athletes Set for June 27 -
Free Admission @ LFHS
It all began 3 years ago when our church and Lake Forest High School formed a creative partnership to help the young student athletes in one of Chicago's most dangerous neighborhood.
The first year we hoped to raise some money to help the basketball team at Orr Academy High School. Not only did we raise $35,000, we were also able to provide a complete weight room for all their athletes.
Last year we raised a little bit of money at the annual summer game, but we experimented a bit as we welcomed New Trier and Marshall to the event. This year, it's mostly about fostering the relationship between Orr & LFHS - two schools that are different in so many ways, and using basketball as the common denominator.
Orr has won three consecutive Illinois AA titles, and Lake Forest is on the way up - and excited about repeating last year's victory. Two games will be played, at 12 noon (JV) and 2:00 pm (varsity) - both at the LFHS campus on McKinley in Lake Forest.
