St. Patrick Parish News & Updates

A Word from the Pastor

June 13, 2025

Now that school is finished and the summer has begun, I want to update you on a few summer projects that will be taking place here at St. Patrick’s.

The first one is the biggest and most expensive and I need your help with it. The roof on the Parish Center and the parish offices is in desperate need of replacement. It has been patched many times, and it has reached the point that total replacement is the only solution. We have investigated several ways to do it and received bids from three companies. We plan to do it during the dry months of the summer. The total cost will be almost $300,000. Our parish is able to pay our bills on a week-to-week basis (with a little left as a reserve), but a big expense like this will strain our limited resources. This is where I am asking for your help. Please consider making an additional donation for the repair of this roof. By additional, I mean in addition to your regular donation. You can use the gold envelope in your packet or use the online giving choice for Parish Construction and Repair Fund. Or use a plain envelope marked “roof replacement.” Thank you in advance.

Another project which is not nearly as big but just as important is increasing our security through surveillance cameras. Our parish school is already well-covered. We have a few cameras in the parish offices and parish center. This week we will begin to add about a dozen more cameras, primarily inside and around the outside of the church. They will “give us eyes” on what goes on around the entire outside perimeter of the church, as well as the interior of the main area of the church and sacristies. We will also have cameras on all sides of the office and parish center buildings. The cameras will be integrated into our internet system and store the pictures and videos for 30 days. I am pleased that we are able to add this important layer of security to our safe environment.

On a smaller scale, we are in the process of replacing the signage on our property and making it easier for people who are not familiar with our campus to find the building they are looking for. In addition, we have removed the electric chargers near the north entrance to the parish center. (They were not functioning, and the company went out of business.) This makes it clear that those parking spots are available.

As always, thank you for your continued support – both spiritual and financial. Please consider making a contribution to this important capital improvement.

Have a blessed and joyful summer!

In one Heart,

Fr. Ron

Why Is the Trinity So Important?

The Trinity's importance lies in revealing the nature of God as a unity of three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit, who are co-equal and co-eternal. This doctrine is central to Christian faith, defining who God is and impacting how Christians understand salvation, worship, and relationships.

The Trinity is a foundational doctrine that distinguishes Christianity from other religions. It answers the core question of who God is and provides the basis for understanding everything else in Christian theology. The doctrine of the Trinity is based on biblical revelation and has been affirmed by the early church fathers. The Trinity reveals God as a relational God, eternally existing in a loving relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This sheds light on God's joy, love, and the nature of divine life. The Trinity offers a model for how humans should relate to each other, mirroring the unity and diversity within the Godhead. It encourages unity, love, and reconciliation.

The Trinity is crucial for understanding salvation, as it reveals the nature of God's saving action through the Son (Jesus Christ) and the empowering work of the Holy Spirit. The doctrine of the Trinity informs Christian worship and liturgy, helping believers understand God's greatness and mystery. Likewise, the Trinity provides a pattern for understanding God's mission in the world, encouraging Christians to reflect the triune God in their lives and interactions.

Novena of Masses for Fathers

Our parish will once again offer a Novena of Masses for Fathers during the month of June. To have the name of your father or loved one included, you may use the envelope included in this month’s packet of envelopes. You may also simply write the names “In Memory of” or “In Honor of” on a plain envelope. Place the envelope in any collection or send it to the parish office. The envelopes will be placed on the altar for all the Masses.

Traditional Hymn to the Holy Trinity

“Oh God, Almighty Father” is a traditional Catholic hymn that praises each of the persons of the Trinity, one verse addressed to each person. The refrain praises the undivided unity of these persons.

John 16:12-15

Whatever the Father has is mine. The Spirit of truth will guide us.

Background on the Gospel Reading

This week we return to the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. This Sunday and next Sunday, however, are designated as solemnities, special days that call our attention to central mysteries of our faith. Today, on the first Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. This feast invites us to consider what we believe about God, who has revealed himself to us in the Trinity—one God in three persons.

The verses of today's Gospel come near the end of Jesus' long discourse at the Last Supper. In the early part of this discourse, as we saw last week on Pentecost, Jesus offers assurances to the disciples. Even though he must leave the disciples, he tells them that they will have a future because of the help he will send them in the Holy Spirit. In this section he focuses more on the shape of the future, which will include Jesus' victory over the world that they will share in. The disciples of Jesus cannot know the future. They can only know that, whatever shape the future takes, they will not have to face it alone. They have the Spirit of Truth, who will continue to provide the teaching of Jesus in the future.

Reading this passage on Trinity Sunday reinforces our understanding of the unity shared by the members of the Trinity. Although the idea of one God in three persons remains a mystery, we have the assurance that, as Jesus and the Father share all, Jesus and the Spirit share all.

Trinity Song

This song to the Holy Trinity was composed and is performed by Sandra McCracken from her album: Light in the Canyon.

Ye Olde Garage Sale-

June Sale

For the ENTIRE MONTH OF JUNE. Yes, that is correct. Everything in the entire shoppe will be half off. The Ye Olde Garage is closed in the month of July for renovations, so we are trying to reduce the inventory to make room for new items when we re-open in August.

Follow the Garage Sale signs to the northeast parking lot. Look for the American flag. That is where we will be.

Family Mass

Our next Family Mass will be this Sunday, June 15 at 9:00 am in the church.

This will be Father’s Day, so bring Dad along for a special prayer.

Annual Cooperative Mission Appeal Collection

On June 28-29 we will have the opportunity to support the missionary activity of the Church through the Annual Missionary Appeal. The beneficiary this year’s collection is the Casa de los Pobres, a comprehensive social services center in neighboring Tijuana.

For more than 60 years the Casa, the House of the Poor directed by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Peace, has provided food, clothing, medical services, counselling and catechetical ministries to all who come to their door. Each year they provide more than 300,000 meals, and each month many people visit their outpatient medical clinic and social services office. The current situation becomes more difficult with each passing day, and our help is needed more than ever to provide for our neediest brothers and sisters who live 50 miles and a world away from here.

A representative of the Casa will speak at all of our Masses on June 28 and 29. There will be a second collection in support of this ministry. Thank you for your generous support in this vital work.

1+1+1= 1 (y no 3).
