Grammy-nominated and award-winning saxophonist Jimmie Highsmith Jr. will be playing holiday music and jazz tunes in the lobby outside of the Franklin auditorium as students arrive to school on Thursday morning.

Highsmith Jr. has shared the stage with and opened for multiple Grammy winners, including Alicia Keys and Wynton Marsalis. He has recorded 11 top-selling smooth jazz CD's that have sold worldwide.

Highsmith Jr. is a member of the Fathers Initiating Restorative Engagement (F.I.R.E.) initiative, which is currently being implemented at Edison Career and Technology High School and Franklin High School. Dads have already undergone training in areas of youth development, de-escalation, and restorative practices and serve as positive role models for students at school during arrival, lunch, and dismissal times. If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail [email protected] or call 262-8362.
