Center Receives a Grant from The Jim Moran Foundation

A generous two-year grant from The Jim Moran Foundation will fund two new SAGES: Senior Adult Group Experiences support groups for low-income seniors at  St. Andrew Tower in Pompano and St. Elizabeth Garden in Coral Springs. These residences are run under Catholic Health Services ---also a not for profit.

SAGES enables the elderly to avoid the negative psychosocial effects of isolation. Senior support groups provide a means to preserve and enhance seniors' cognitive abilities, as well as their physical health. Research has shown that social support has a buffering effect, protecting against the negative symptoms of mental disorders, particularly those associated with depression.

We are extremely grateful to The Jim Moran Foundation for enabling us to expand our SAGES program to Broward County.

4th Annual Yogathon for Hope to Benefit
Faulk Center & Other Local Mental Health Organizations
Four years ago mother and beloved yoga instructor Pam Leal lost her 17-year-old daughter Bailey to suicide. Since then, Pam has been on a tireless mission to eliminate the stigmas placed on suicide and depression by providing resources to students and teens in our community.

A Yoga Event in Bailey's honor will be held Saturday, March 18th at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The event will feature  presentations by local mental health professionals, including the Center's Dr. Holly Katz. For more details click here to view the event flyer.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death of young persons aged 15-24. Each day in our nation, there are an average of over 5,240 attempts by young people grades 7-12.
