Tazzarin North to Nunatsiavut

Favorite Anchorage and Crew Change

2100 Saturday August 20

I Have spent a little time reflecting back over the past week. Tazzarin is now back in a berth at the Royal Newfoundland Yacht Club near St. John's. As I pondered the last week of sailing, I know there is one clear standout harbor that Annie and I greatly enjoyed. Traytown Harbour at Ireland's Eye. To give you a bit better sense of this place, I am giving you an aerial view of Tazzarin at anchor in that snug harbor. I used my drone to capture the moment. The route in and out of this anchorage is actually back out between the little islets, then turning right and exiting in the top right where the hills hide the last bit of the channel out. There is no other way in or out. A most protected and magical place, peaceful and quiet, alone.

The other news of the day is that Annie flew home this morning on a 5:55 am flight. She arrived at Logan Airport in Boston at 10:00 am and by coincidence came face to face with my sailing friend David Martz who was about to board a flight north. You can see the two of them at the airport in the photo below! David is now with me here in Newfoundland and will head off for 10-12 days of sailing up the coast before returning to St. John's. I am looking forward to the time with David, who shares my passion for sailing. So, the crew change is complete. More adventures to follow.
