City Manager's Report

The Latest from Doug

As we close out 2025, I want to thank you for the way you’ve shown up for Fayetteville through the busy days, the hard moments, and the milestones that remind us what a strong community looks like. This year has been shaped by neighbors helping neighbors, dedicated City staff delivering essential services, and our friends and neighbors who care enough to stay engaged. That’s the momentum we strive to carry into 2026: steady progress, real partnership, and a shared belief that Fayetteville’s best chapters are still ahead.

One of the most fun ways to end the year on a high note is to celebrate together downtown at A District New Year’s Eve Spectacular at Festival Park tonight, from 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. This year’s lineup is built for a true throwback party: Bubba Sparxxx brings that Southern hip-hop energy that made club classics that we all remember and longtime fans will recognize his earlier sound from tracks like “Ugly”; Yung Joc is best known for “It’s Goin’ Down,” a snap-era anthem that’s basically guaranteed to have the crowd rapping along; and 702 delivers the R&B sing-alongs that defined an era…just think “Where My Girls At?” and “Get It Together.”

When you come out, expect a downtown atmosphere that feels festive and welcoming with live music and DJ sets, food trucks, kids’ activities, and a big community countdown capped by the raising of Fayetteville’s signature New Year’s Eve star and fireworks at midnight. It’s a positive, family-friendly way to turn the page in America’s Can-Do City and start 2026 with joy, pride, and the kind of shared experience that reminds us how much good there is in our city.

Stay safe tonight and I look forward to seeing you in 2026.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett
