July marks National Parks and Recreation Month, and I want to take this opportunity to celebrate the incredible work of our Parks and Recreation Department and recognize the dedicated team who make our community a better place to live, work and play.
Our parks and recreation facilities provide welcoming spaces that create a sense of belonging for residents of all ages and backgrounds. From our neighborhood parks to our engaging recreation programs to our exciting splash pads, these investments have a major impact on our quality of life as residents and contributes to what makes our city special.
Most importantly, behind each park, every youth sports league and every engaging event stands our amazing Parks and Recreation team. These professionals work tirelessly, often behind the scenes. Whether they're maintaining athletic fields at dawn, coordinating summer camps, supervising at our pools or developing new programs for participants, our staff demonstrates dedication and commitment to serving you.
This month, I encourage you to explore of all that our Parks and Recreation Department has to offer. Visit a park you haven't been to before, sign up for a fitness class or program, take a swim in our pools or simply take a moment to appreciate the green spaces that surround us. When you see our Parks and Recreation staff out in the field, please join me in thanking them for their hard work and dedication.
Thanks to our outstanding team, these spaces will continue to serve you, your family and friends for years to come.

Best,
Dr. Douglas J. Hewett
