City Manager's Report

March 13, 2026 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

Tuesday, our community came together in City Hall for the State of the City Address with Mayor Mitch Colvin. It was a moment to celebrate how far Fayetteville has come and to look ahead at the work that will continue to move our city forward.

One theme stood out clearly: building the next generation workforce. Fayetteville’s growth, including a stronger tax base and new employers, doesn’t happen by chance. It happens because we invest in people, in opportunities and in programs that prepare residents for success. That investment is what keeps our community growing and thriving.

We are working closely with partners across the City to make sure our residents have the skills, training and experience they need to succeed. From programs for our youth to support for adult learners and veterans, we are creating pathways that strengthen our workforce and give people real opportunities to advance.

Over the past five years, the City has committed $1.6 million to workforce development programs, and we are focused on making these opportunities sustainable so that Fayetteville’s future workforce is ready for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

We are also making investments that touch everyday life, our sidewalks and trails, streets and connectivity, and supporting our police and first responders to keep the community safe. These improvements help provide a sense of belonging to our residents and builds community.

All of this work reflects the City Council’s priorities, and as we look toward FY-2027, the Council remains focused on safety, economic growth, affordable housing, and better connectivity for all residents.

Fayetteville is moving forward because of these investments in our people, our infrastructure and our community. And that progress matters. It creates opportunities for our residents today and lays the foundation for generations to come.

I encourage you to watch the full State of the City Address and learn more about the progress happening across our 'Can Do' City.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett
