City Manager's Report

March 20, 2026 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

I’m sure many of us have been navigating the ups and downs in the weather this past week, but one thing is certain: SPRING has arrived. Today marks the first day of the season, and that means warmer temperatures, more sunshine and more opportunities to enjoy time outdoors.

As the dogwoods begin to bloom across our City, it’s a great time to take a walk on one of our trails and enjoy the natural beauty our community has to offer. The connection between the Harry F. Shaw Linear Park Trail and the Cape Fear River Trail now provides nearly 11.4 miles of continuous trailways and greenways, giving you more space to walk, bike and stay connected to nature.

Our Parks and Recreation Department also offers a variety of programs, activities and events for all ages. Whether you’re looking to stay active, spend time with family or try something new, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. I encourage you to explore upcoming programs and register to participate this season: FCPR Activities Guide.

I’m excited to share that this year, we will host two spring citywide cleanup events to keep Fayetteville Beautiful. We invite you to join us for the first Fayetteville Beautiful cleanup on Saturday, March 28. If you can’t make that one, our second cleanup is set for Saturday, April 25. You can learn more and register at FayettevilleBeautiful.com

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather many of us have been waiting for.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett
