City Manager's Report

The Latest from Doug

As another school year comes to a close, our community is entering an exciting season of celebration, opportunity, and hope. In the coming days, high school seniors across our community will walk across the stage and begin a new chapter in life, while many college students have already celebrated their graduation achievements. On behalf of the City, congratulations to all graduates and their families for this important milestone.

Graduation season is a reminder that every young person carries dreams, goals, and the potential to shape the future of our community. Whether students are preparing for college, careers, military service, entrepreneurship, or discovering their next step, this moment represents possibility and promise. We are proud of the hard work, resilience, and determination shown by our students throughout the year.

While classrooms may soon be empty for the summer, the learning, growth, and engagement do not have to stop. Summer provides a valuable opportunity for young people to stay active, explore new interests, build confidence, and continue developing important life skills in a safe and positive environment.

The City offers a variety of summer youth programs, camps, recreational activities, and enrichment opportunities designed to keep students engaged throughout the break. From athletics and outdoor activities to educational programs and creative experiences, these opportunities help encourage curiosity, build friendships, and inspire young people to continue pursuing their dreams.

We encourage parents and guardians to explore the many programs available through our Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department and community partners. These programs not only support working families, but also help our youth stay connected, active, and encouraged during the summer months.

As we celebrate our graduates and welcome the summer season, let us continue investing in the hopes, dreams, and future of the next generation. The encouragement, opportunities, and support we provide today will help shape tomorrow’s leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett

Congratulations to our Fayetteville-Cumberland Youth Council Graduates!
