City Manager's Report

October 16, 2026 | FayettevilleNC.gov

The Latest from Doug

In the days since the tornado struck our community, I’ve been moved by the way people have shown up for one another. Neighbors have checked on neighbors, community members have offered help, and volunteers have traveled here to support those affected. Moments like these remind us that Fayetteville is more than a place we call home—it’s a community that cares for its people. That’s what makes this the Can Do City.

I’m grateful to the City employees and emergency responders who worked through the storm and continue helping our community recover. Many stepped away from their own routines to respond, clear debris, share information and help residents get the support they need. Their dedication reflects the care they have for Fayetteville and the people who live here. I also want to thank everyone who has volunteered, offered a helping hand or simply taken time to check on a neighbor.

If you or someone you know was affected by the storm, the City has resources available. Visit FayettevilleNC.gov/StormCleanUp for information about reporting damage, storm cleanup and debris collection.

As we continue to recover, this is also a reminder to prepare for emergencies before they happen. An emergency kit with water, nonperishable food, medications, a flashlight, batteries, a first-aid kit and important documents can help you and your family get through the first hours of an emergency. Please take a few minutes to check your supplies and make sure everyone in your household knows how to stay in touch and where to go if severe weather affects us again.

In the days ahead, please keep looking out for one another. A call to check on a neighbor or a helping hand can make a real difference. Recovery takes time, but we’ll continue to face the work together, with the same care and generosity our community has shown from the start. Thank you for being there for one another and for making Fayetteville the Can Do City.

Best,

Dr. Douglas J. Hewett

Employee Appreciation 2026

Good food, good company and a chance to celebrate the people who keep Fayetteville running! Our annual luncheon and Health & Safety Fair gave City employees time to catch up, enjoy themselves and recognize the work we do together.

Much of that work happens behind the scenes, but residents count on it every day. When something needs attention, our employees step in and work together to keep things moving. That’s how Fayetteville continues to grow and thrive. Thank you for all you do!
