The Fearless Facilitator

May 2019
Did You Know?
May is Older Americans' Month!

This year, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) has chosen the theme to be Connect, Create, Contribute, which encourages older adults and their communities to:
  • Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
  • Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
  • Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

ACL has provided some resources on how to Connect , Create and Contribute during Older Americans Month. To read more, click here .
Tips & Tricks
Menu Planning #1 - We know that the menu planning activities can be a bit challenging and thought we'd share a quick tip to assist participants. You can suggest that participants start the activity by writing out their menu before categorizing each item, portion size, and number of servings. This will help them to plan mindfully and get all their ideas out. It also promotes good communication among participants and offers a better overview on how to create meals at home.

Can't bear the quiet? Breaks too silent? Just add music! - We've recognized that workshop breaks can be a bit silent (especially during the first session) and thought this might be a great time to play music. While it's easy to gravitate toward your own musical choice, allow participants a voice and ask what preference they have. Playing music has helped to get people talking and it creates a great environment!
