Dobri Kiprov, M.D., H.P.: Therapeutic Apheresis

Dobri Kiprov, MD, HP is internationally recognized as a pioneer and a leading expert in the field of Therapeutic Apheresis. Dr. Kiprov is Chief of the Division of Immunotherapy at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California and Medical Director of Apheresis Care Group (ACG). Dr. Kiprov is also Chief Medical Officer of Young Blood Institute, a nonprofit which funds his research.
In his presentation, Dr. Dobri Kiprov discusses and exhibits Therapeutic Apheresis (plasma exchange or cytapheresis), an extracorporeal treatment that removes blood components from patients, which is used for the treatment of conditions in which a pathogenic substance or component in the blood is causing morbidity.
Since the 1980s, Therapeutic Apheresis has been used
to remove pro-inflammatory factors and auto anti-bodies in auto immune diseases. Both controlled and uncontrolled clinical trials have proved that Thereapeutic Apheresis is very effective in the treatment of over 50 auto immune diseases
.
This procedure removes the abnormal substances, the auto anti-bodies and the pro-inflammatory factors very efficiently.
Dr. Kiprov reflects on mature and aging population, with concerns over baby boomers who have higher rates of chronic diseases, but have more disability and lower quality of life despite longer life expectancy over previous generations.
Dr. Kiprov addresses
major chronic diseases due to failures in the immune system: infections, poor response to vaccines (cardiovascular disease, stroke, dementia), increased frequency of cancer, increased frequency of autoimmune conditions, physical limitations and disability.
He presents the cellular level characteristics of the immune system, how the immune system is regulated, and the functionality of immune response to infection or injury in the process of aging and chronic disease.

California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California and Medical Director of Apheresis Care Group (ACG).
He has worked in the field of therapeutic apheresis for more than 25 years and has published extensively on this subject. Dr. Kiprov served two terms on the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) Board of Directors and created the first ASFA educational video program. He is also the first physician to take and pass the Hemapheresis Practitioner Exam (ASCP). Dr. Kiprov is the recipient of the ASFA Presidential Award for his pioneering workand numerous contributions to the field of apheresis and the Society.
Dr. Kiprov is one of the first physicians in the United States to complete a formal fellowship program in Clinical Immunology and Immunopathology (Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, sponsored by the NIH). Dr. Kiprov's accomplishments in the field of Immunology are reflected in his numerous publications including the first description of new immunologically related syndromes.
With his immunology and apheresis background, Dr. Kiprov has been a part of the first trials of immunotherapy (cell therapies) and is currently involved in several projects involving cell vaccines and stem cell therapies.
Dr. Kiprov's extensive experience with immune system disorders has led to the development of educational programs that foster immune system health and longevity through his unique approach combining appealing eating habits and physical activities.
