Where We At a collective of black women artists. Notables include: Kay Brown, Carole Byard, Dindga McCannon, Betye Saar, Faith Ringgold and Ann Tanksley. The group responded to a lack of racial diversity in the art world and organized protests against museums. They always had a grassroots flavor, even cooking food at openings. These women stood for community and political identity. They began a re-writing of art history.
