4-H'ers for 4-H Kickoff

The largest fundraising campaign conducted by 4-H members for 4-H members is set to kick-off

March 1, 2014.

Iowa 4-H members across the state are encouraged to participate in the

4-H'ers for 4-H Campaign to raise funds for Iowa 4-H youth programs and activities. The funds raised by the campaign will help Iowa families with financial assistance for program fees and for youth to attend 4-H camps, intermediate trips and state events.

Last year 79 counties participated and the 2013-2014 4-H State Council has set their sights on gaining the support of all 100 Iowa county offices this year. Stay tuned for more information!
2014 Spring Camp Volunteer Day

Is your business in need of a team building work day or do you know individuals looking to get outdoors and volunteer their time?

We have the perfect opportunity for you! Winter is almost over and the   4-H camp season is right around the corner. Each spring, the Iowa 4-H Center is in need of volunteers to help provide a little TLC and help spruce up its camp. The Iowa 4-H Center, along with hundreds of campers, would be grateful for your help to get things cleaned up and ready for another fun season of summer camping.

The Spring Camp Volunteer Day will take place April 26, 2014 at the Iowa 4-H Center in Madrid, Iowa. To sign up to volunteer, please contact the camp office at 515.795.3338 or email

Leave a message with your name, contact information, and if you have any special skills and training (i.e. carpentry, plumbing, electrical,) or a preferred activity that you would like to be involved in.

Give Back. Time. Talent. Treasure

For some, that means volunteering hours and hours each year as a club leader so that meetings can be youth-run and they learn to be the "leaders" themselves.

I observed the Volunteer Leader Retreat this past weekend, held in the Extension 4-H Youth Building, where leaders like Marcia Bear of Davis County; Barbara Oldham of Mahaska County; and Ashley Kinkade of Story County gave up their entire weekend to demonstrate 4-H club project ideas to volunteer leaders from all over the state.

For others, it means taking a group of kids to your commercial kitchen in your garage to teach them the art of bread baking and pie making.  (thank you, Ruth Beck!)  Or, taking a 4-H area needing fund raising (Safe Rooms) and promoting it in conjunction with another organization, like the conference held for Women in Denim (thanks, Barb Determan!)

Operation: Safe Campers

We all know Iowa's weather can bquite unpredictable.  When bad weather strikes, the Iowa 4-H Foundation wants our youth and staff at camp to be safe.

Operation: Safe Campers, is a fundraising campaign to build a tornado-safe facility at the Iowa 4-H Center. Currently $93,000 has been raised to fund this project but we still need to raise $67,000 more to reach our goal. Please join us in our campaign to help keep our campers safe.
