Read the Statement -- Call Your Members of Congress!
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota and the League of Women Voters of the United States issued the following joint statement in response to the federal immigration enforcement and escalation of federal military activity in Minnesota:
“Minnesota is grieving and on edge. The growing presence and activities of federal immigration enforcement agents have terrorized, suppressed, and irreparably harmed our community. At a moment when Minnesotans deserve transparency, accountability, care, and calm leadership, the President has instead chosen to escalate fear by threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act and to place federal military forces on standby.
“The League opposes any illegal or unconstitutional use of the Insurrection Act, as positioning or threatening to deploy active-duty troops undermines public safety and reflects intimidation, suppression, and misuse of executive power.
“Minnesotans have endured profound trauma in recent years and have repeatedly shown that lasting safety comes from people power: communities coming together to reject hatred, violence, and mistrust, and to demand justice through democratic means. Militarization undermines that work. It escalates tension, erodes trust, and puts residents at greater risk.
“The League of Women Voters calls on Congress to exercise its constitutional oversight authority and investigate these threats of federal overreach, as well as DHS, ICE, and CBP use-of-force. We urge the public to reject efforts to normalize the use of federal military force as a response to civil unrest or tragedy.
“The League stands with Minnesotans in affirming that democracy is built by the people, not imposed through fear or force. We strongly condemn any unwarranted federal immigration enforcement and military deployment or threat of deployment in Minnesota or anywhere in the United States.”

Are you seeking out
independent media?
Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center is collecting a variety of media including readings, documentaries, and podcasts on the topics of the day, to be read and shared.
Our goal is to educate, encourage discussion, and inspire activism.
NEW THIS WEEK:
JEFFREY SACHS: Engineering Iran's Unrest
"It’s certainly not diplomacy and it’s not coercion. It is war conducted by economic means, all designed to produce an economic crisis and social unrest leading to a fall of the government."
"The Trump administration is using ICE to wage a brutal, racist war on the working class, but mainstream media is desperate to put the blame for ICE’s current murderous rampage squarely on Donald Trump—from “How Trump’s ICE Became an Agency in Crisis” in TIME Magazine to “Minnesota drags Trump’s ICE to court in effort to pause immigration crackdown” in Fox News, it is “Trump’s ICE” that is to blame for the murders, kidnapped children, and mass detentions and deportations.
The history of ICE, however, shows that Trump and the far-right did not build ICE or this deportation architecture overnight; it was instead handed over to them as a bipartisan product of the ramp-up of racist surveillance and criminalization in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks."
BILL MCKIBBEN: Thinking about lying - Climate denial taught our leaders shamelessness
"Politicians, it goes without saying, have sometimes engaged in dishonesty, often with hideous consequences. The Gulf of Tonkin “attacks” that gave America an excuse for war in Vietnam were at least in part fabrications; the “weapons of mass destruction” weren’t in Iraq and there was no compelling reason to think they were. Hell, we had a president—Richard Nixon—known as Tricky Dick for the smears and fibs that marked his whole career, from his first congressional race to the last days of Watergate. But the presidents who told those lies generally attempted to manufacture cover stories or cloud them in enough shadows that they might pass for mistakes. By now, however, we’ve reached a point where the president and his party just recite up-is-down lies constantly. Consider this reckoning of his first term:"
THE YOUNG TURKS: Settlement Bombshell - Ghislaine Maxwell DROPS Bombshell
"Ghislaine Maxwell admitted that twenty five Jeffrey Epstein associates made settlements tied to sex abuse allegations. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian discuss on The Young Turks."
JONATHAN WHITTALL: Ex-CIA Chief David Petraeus Briefs Officials in Israel Overseeing "New Gaza"
"Former CIA Director David Petraeus—one of the godfathers of the modern doctrine of counterinsurgency warfare—last week visited the U.S.-military run coordination center established in southern Israel to oversee the so-called ceasefire in Gaza, multiple sources from the diplomatic community told Drop Site News.
In his remarks at the Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Kiryat Gat, Petraeus praised Israel’s shift to clearing, holding, and rebuilding—a change from his previous criticism that Israeli forces were not implementing lessons from the U.S. counter-insurgency operations in Iraq, in particular the creation of “gated communities.”
One week prior to Petraeus’s visit, the U.S. Army presented the CMCC with plans for a “Gaza First Planned Community” in Rafah, as first reported by Drop Site. The residential compound would house up to 25,000 Palestinians in an area under full Israeli military control and would include biometric entry, identity checks, reeducation programs, and controls over aid and housing"

World BEYOND War has
a DIVESTMENT campaign!
About the Campaign
Grassroots-led war divestment campaigns are springing up all over the world, from students organizing to divest university endowments, to municipalities and states coming together to divest public pension funds. Divestment means organizing to remove public and private assets from weapons manufacturers, military contractors, and war profiteers.
Public pension and retirement funds especially are often invested, directly and indirectly, in weapons companies. Teachers and other public servants whose interests lie with promoting human needs have their retirement security tied up with maintaining or enlarging the war industry. Every dollar currently invested in weapons and war is a dollar that could be better spent on job creation, education, housing, healthcare, food security, and so much more.
War profiteering is largely normalized today. We’re working to stigmatize the war machine. World BEYOND War assists divestment campaigns led by our chapters, affiliates, other coalitions, and individuals around the world.
