HABITAT HIGH STUDENTS KICK OFF
THE SPRING BUILD SEASON
The snow is gone and there is a hint of spring in the air! Our construction team is hard at work preparing our spring build sites in Columbia and Fairview. This year we will construct 12 homes and finish building out our Willow Crest neighborhood. Volunteer groups will be limited to outside work and 10 people per build day this spring, but our hope is that will change in the fall.

As always, we will kick off the year with our amazing local high school students who band together to fundraise and build a home for local family in need. This year’s Habitat High includes Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, Fairview, Ravenwood, and Broadneck High Schools. This will be the 22nd Habitat High home built by our affiliate and is one of the only secondary-level sponsored Habitat for Humanity builds in the nation!

While volunteering will be limited for the students this year, the schools are hard at work designing creative, COVID-safe fundraisers to help raise the $70,000 needed for the home's "bricks and sticks." Donations are still needed! Click here to donate. Choose "Habitat High - General" from the dropdown and list your school in the additional notes. We will make sure your donation gets credited to your school of choice!
HFHWM WELCOMES NEW
DIRECTOR OF CONSTRUCTION
Terry Thompson grew up in Belle Chasse, Louisiana where his dad served as the vice president of a large paving company. He learned about construction and hard work as he spent long, hot summers on the road crews. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University with a degree in music, Terry moved to Nashville to further his education at Belmont. When he was not on the road performing as a singer-songwriter (touring with such bands as “Three Dog Night” and “America”) he was at home renovating his first house and learning even more tools of the trade. He found that he had a real knack for rehabbing, becoming a master trim carpenter and all-around tradesman.

In 2005, he opened Thompson Contractors, LLC as a licensed general contractor offering both residential and commercial services. Terry comes to HFHWM with a lifetime of experience in building and remodeling houses. He and his wife, Carmen, share a love for animals and New Orleans Saints Football. He has also worked as an actor and spokesperson, plays guitar and five-string banjo, is a talented artist, and enjoys woodworking and cooking. Terry has been a member of Clearview Baptist in Franklin since its inception over 30 years ago.
FIRST FARMERS BANK SPONSORS CRITICAL REPAIR FOR LOCAL SENIOR
Last week during the cold temperatures and snow, we couldn't help but reflect on our latest critical repair project. Thanks to the financial support of First Farmers Bank, we were able to install a new roof and electrical wiring and repair a HVAC system for Ms. Augusta Walker in Columbia, TN just before the winter storm hit the area.

Mrs. Walker was so thankful for this opportunity and called the repairs a "blessing."

“I wanted to fix my roof for so long, but I couldn’t find the money to do it,” Walker said. “I also wanted someone I could trust to do the job right. I was so thankful to find this program. God has blessed me.”

HAMMERS & HIGH HEELS GOES VIRTUAL
Our 2021 Women Build will be smaller this year with limited volunteer opportunities in light of the pandemic, but what won’t change will be the need to raise $70,000 to pay for the home’s “bricks and sticks” through our Hammers & High Heels fundraiser!

Though we will all miss celebrating together in-person this year, we hope you will “attend” virtually with us to support Searria Peoples' future home from the comfort of your home – whether you are in your PJs or stilettos! Visit womenbuildtn.com to learn all about the event!

THE BIG PAYBACK IS COMING!
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee's The Big Payback is a 24-hour, online giving event created to increase philanthropy in the 40 counties of Middle Tennessee. The goal is simple - inspire Middle Tennesseans to come together, show their pride in their communities, and contribute to support the life-changing work of local nonprofit organizations. Since 2014, we have cumulatively raised nearly $21 million for charities working hard to make a difference.

We are excited to be part of this year's #BigPayback and hope you will support us with a donation - every amount helps! Our goal is to raise $5,000 to help build homes in the fall! Hope you will join us virtually on May 5. https://www.thebigpayback.org/hfhwm
