This Weekly Update by the Illinois School and Campus Safety Program links to mental health resources from SAMHSA, provides a final chance to register for the Effective Communication Principles class, and promotes the upcoming Site Safety Security Assessment, Digital Threat Assessment®, Advanced Digital Threat Assessment®, and Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ classes.

This week is Student Mental Health Week. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) For Educators webpage includes information on the warning signs for mental health problems, information on promoting mental health in schools, and more. Site Safety Security Assessment Training March 22nd in Gurnee

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Site Safety Security Assessment March 22, 2024, in Gurnee, IL. The training provides awareness resources and preparedness training to enhance organizational capacity to conduct multidisciplinary site assessments. The process of conducting a school site safety security assessment creates opportunities to reduce or eliminate potential hazards and develop recommendations for improvement.

Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents in Pekin on March 14th

There's still time to register for the Effective Communication Principles Before, During, and After Critical Incidents class on March 14th in Pekin, IL.

This training provides attendees comprehensive education on the subject of communications. Throughout the training, attendees will learn about the importance of building relationships with the media and the community through routine communications. The training will also provide guidance on how to prepare for a crisis communications event and what to do should that day happen. Finally, instruction will wrap up with discussion on how to effectively communicate after a critical incident.

Digital Threat Assessment® March 15th via Zoom

There's still time to register for the Digital Threat Assessment® class on March 15th being held via Zoom.

The Digital Threat Assessment® training will enable participants to establish a framework to better assess all threats by constructing and considering the digital baseline of a threat maker by locating, documenting, and evaluating social media data through a threat assessment lens. A significant portion of the day will be spent engaging in hands-on exercises on the most prevalent social media platforms and associated search applications.

Upcoming Session of Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® on April 3rd via Zoom

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® on April 3rd being held via Zoom.

Building upon the Digital Threat Assessment® class by Safer Schools Together, Advanced Digital Threat Assessment® advances participants' understanding of finding and curating relevant digital information consistent with real-life digital threat assessment data gathering scenarios. Significant engagement and hands-on practice will take place as participants are assembled into investigative teams and given a true-to-life mock scenario.

Upcoming Session of Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ May 8th in Springfield

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Program, in partnership with Safer Schools Together, is pleased to announce an upcoming session of Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment™ on May 8th being held in Springfield, IL.

BDTA™ integrates Safer Schools Together’s Digital Threat Assessment® training and best practice from the National Threat Assessment Center’s Behavioral Threat Assessment model. BDTA™ includes a 3-step response plan developed to help S/TA teams ensure all worrisome, concerning, and threat-related behaviors are proactively responded to, reducing the potential of violence within your community. The training will examine techniques for identifying and assessing individuals who engage in behaviors consistent with a threat and provide S/TA teams with the tools to ensure a thorough data collection process. Additionally, the training will provide an overview of the assessment process, including best practices for interviewing and progress monitoring. Participants will obtain the tools vital for proactively and effectively identifying, assessing, and responding to worrisome and/or threat-related behavior through a BDTA™ management lens.
