Is it springtime yet? According to Punxsutawney Phil, nope, it is not. (How cool was it to have 2/2/22?) And much like the movie, "Groundhogs Day" this cold, cold winter seems to be repeating each day. But alas! a glimmer of warmer times is peaking. At LOLA we are busily preparing for summer; we are scheduling adult and youth classes, and working on both Car Park Music Series and Art Harvest, excited to see and share with the community what regional musicians and artists have been working on over winter.

Calling Art Vendors!
LOLA is looking for Art Vendors for Art Harvest, an annual celebration of autumn and a showcase for those who love to share and educate.
The event takes place on Saturday, September 24th from 10am-3pm, on the Land O' Lakes VFW grounds near the community gardens. The grounds are grassy, with easy unloading and parking. The $25 vendor fee helps with publicity.

Needle Felting: Black Bear
Thursday, March 10th

$60 if kit picked up, $75 if delivered
The registration date is Feb 21st
Experience the therapeutic magic of needle felting! In this zoom class, instructor Laura Berlage will take you step-by-step, transforming hand-dyed wool into your very own adorable mini black bear. This is a great class for beginners looking to try needle felting! Wool is from the instructor's own flock of sheep!

Paint a Growler

Registration date Feb 25th
No experience necessary! Join artist Sue Schurch to paint/repurpose a used growler donated by Tribute Brewing (out of Eagle River!) Paint a loon, flowers, fish, lake, or family name. Let us know your design choice ahead of time so that Sue can have a graphic prepared for you to sketch on the growler. This class will be self-paced with Sue giving each student individual attention as they work on their project.

LOLA is looking for Summer Arts Interns!
LOLA is looking to hire up to three summer interns to teach arts classes to children this summer. All summer interns will earn a stipend, be mentored by LOLA Arts staff, and have the option of free lodging provided in the LOLA apartment during their employment.
Applicants should have completed at least one year of college/technical school and have experience/expertise in one or more of the following: visual art, dance, theater, performing arts, or creative writing. For more information, visit our website.

Emberlight returns this summer! Emberlight Festival is an annual celebration that produces world-class art within the natural beauty of Michigan's western Upper Peninsula. Art in the Park is one of their premier events, with artists from across the northern Midwest creating original installations using mother nature as a canvas. This juried show is awarding cash prizes. Applications are due May 1st. Click here for more information

LOLA Arts Awarded NAC Grant!
The Northern Arts Council has awarded LOLA Arts a $1,200 grant for our Youth Arts Month celebration.
The month of March is Youth Art Month, where schools and communities across the country display student artwork. For years, LOLA has collaborated with Land O Lakes Elementary, framing student artwork and displaying it at the LOLA Arts building main gallery, free and open to the community to view. As a gift, LOLA lets each student keep the frame. This year, we are excited to be able to do the same for the Watersmeet, MI school district, which has a full-time art teacher for the first time in many years. We have more than doubled the number of frames needed, and this grant will allow us to frame and gift those frames to another 150 students, bringing the total to around 250 students. What a gift, to make so many student artists proud.
Student work will be on display from March 9th-24th, Mon-Fri 10-4 pm in the LOLA gallery room. Walk in, enjoy some light refreshments, and view the artwork!

Joins us at a special reception with food, honoring the artists on Saturday, March 19th, 1-3pm.
