Greetings from Board Member Carol Churchill
|
|
The ALCM board of directors met face-to-face January 17 & 18 in Chicago. During the two-day meeting the Board:
- Heard that our membership grew again in 2021 to just over 1900 members.
- Learned that our income exceeded expenses once again, and that 395 discreet donors contributed to ALCM in 2021.
- Approved the 2022 budget.
- Held a special membership meeting for voting of bylaws changes relating to Board structure and future nominations. Meeting resulted in unanimous approval of the changes.
- Introduced the idea of developing an ALCM music series.
- Discussed using Scott Weidler memorial monies for further discernment of new uses/refreshes for Leadership Program for Musicians curriculum.
- Agreed to make offerings/resources for pastors more widely known and available and perhaps not focus so much on membership for those individuals, but rather promotion of many materials available to them.
- Discussed plans for furthering Hearts*Hands*Voices workshops – and pledged renewed support for both small, easy, half-day events as well as more involved multi-day events depending on those willing to lead and pertinent topics.
- Reviewed writers and resources for added diversity in our print publications.
- Addressed cryptocurrency donations – we need to adopt a policy for addressing such contributions.
- Encouraged continuing work on Spanish resources with focus being scaled to a small population to get work moving quicker.
- Reviewed the report from the committee for scholarship/educational resources. The group will report back to the Board with ideas on next steps.
- Looked at ways to further mentorship opportunities.
- Discussed the need for a conflict of interest policy for ALCM board members.

Thank you, regional officers!
|
|
With the new change in bylaws, the four regional presidents have now become "directors" on the board, and the structure of regional officers is no longer supported. Thanks to the many people who have served as regional officers over the years. Special thanks to those who most recently served as regional vice-presidents: (1) Jean Boehler, (2) Karen Areheart Ives, (3) Nathan Proctor, and (4) Tim Getz.

Remembering Susan Palo Cherwien
|
Just over a month ago Susan Palo Cherwien died after several weeks in hospice care. Susan, who is best known as a Lutheran hymnwriter and poet, was also a 2019 recipient of ALCM's Faithful Servant Award. A new ELCA Worship blog post lists her hymns and provides several other links to her work, which has been a gift to the church and world.

Are you a congregation looking for a musician?
A musician looking for a position?
ALCM can help!
Employment resources have been developed to assist congregations in the process of searching for and hiring a musician. Presented in a step-by-step format, these resources will guide you through the entire employment process.
The ALCM job listing service connects those looking for positions in the field of church music with congregations and other institutions that have openings. By completing an online job posting form, congregations can post their positions on the ALCM website where those looking for employment may view them.
Musicians searching for a job may view posted job openings on the ALCM website, where those looking for positions can view them. Both full-time and part-time positions are listed, and new positions are added as received.
