OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

We are midway through Catholic Schools Week and it seems that all our students and teachers are enjoying the variety of activities provided. Bowling, comfy cozy day, a pep rally, board games, buddy day activities are just a few of the events our students and teachers participated in this week. Over the remaining days, we will honor our clergy and religious, celebrate our faculty and staff, showcase the talents of our students, and celebrate our families. All St. Rita families are invited to join us for the 11:30 A.M. Mass at St. Rita Church on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023. Students are asked to wear their school uniform. Following Mass, the Alpha community will be hosting a ‘coffee and’ for our school families in the Donnelly Parish Center, located in the church basement. All are invited to attend.

Last evening, all school families received an automated phone call regarding parking in the areas surrounding the school. Parents and grandparents are once again disregarding the posted “No Parking” signs. A few weeks ago, the illegal parking at dismissal time interfered with a medical emergency situation which was occurring at our neighbor’s house. What lesson are we teaching our children when the adults in their lives are disregarding the law? As your child’s first teacher and primary role model, please work with us to be a respectful neighbor to those who live in the area. Please see below for the parking map and share it with those who assist your family with pick-up. Thank you for your assistance.

The re-enrollment survey form was sent out to all school families last week, as we have started planning for the 2023-2024 school year. We have been discussing many exciting initiatives for next school year and I am hoping that you and your family will be part of it. However, as we move forward toward making preparations for next year, we need to better understand the status of your child's re-enrollment at St. Rita School. Kindly click HERE to fill out the form if you have not yet done so.

Applications are now being accepted from our current school families who have another child to enroll for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Please contact Mrs. Bruno, our admissions director, for the registration information. Priority is now being given to our current families; however please do not wait if you plan on having your child attend in the fall. Re-enrollment for current students will not take place until early March.

As we close out Catholic Schools Week, let us all take some time to reflect on the purpose and mission of Catholic education. From the document Catholic Schools on the Threshold of the Third Millennium from the Congregation for Catholic Education, states “that the Church’s teaching mission is to invite young people to a relationship with Jesus Christ or deepen their existing relationship with Jesus, inserting young people into the life of the Church, and assisting young people to see and understand the role of faith in one’s daily life and in the larger society.” All our teachers and faculty members here at St. Rita work to support you in your role as the primary teacher and model of the Catholic faith for your child. Working together we will raise a generation of kind, compassionate and faith-filled young people who will make a positive difference in our world.

Looking forward to seeing all of you this Sunday to celebrate what a wonderful school community we have here at St. Rita School. Thank you for entrusting your child to our care. Stay safe, be well and keep warm.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Please observe the “NO PARKING” signs on Gillies Road, Edgemere Road and Dessa Drive. Your willingness to observe the NO PARKING signs will ensure the safety of our students and school neighbors. Please share this with grandparents, caregivers, and anyone else who may pick up your child at dismissal. The Police Department has been issuing warnings and will be ticketing those drivers who disregard the no parking signs. Please see the provided map for no parking areas, and available parking lots. Areas marked in red are no parking areas.

Inclement Weather

With the winter season quickly approaching, our thoughts turn to snow days. We have 5 inclement weather days built into our school calendar so we will be taking snow days this winter. Snow days are a childhood tradition and are meant to be a day children can sleep in and then go outside to play in the snow. Should we have a more severe winter and exceed our 5 snow days, we will consult with our central office and make a decision regarding next steps.

When school is dismissed early due to inclement weather, there will be no after care.

When school is delayed due to inclement weather, before care will still operate, beginning at 7 am, at a cost of $15.

St. Rita School follows the Hamden Public School system regarding snow days. If Hamden Public Schools are closed, St. Rita School will be closed. Closings will be listed on WTNH Channel 8, WFSB Channel 3, and WVIT Channel 30.

You will also be notified via School Messenger in a text,

phone call, and email.
