Cathedral Pet Food Pantry

For some who live on the street or who live alone, closest and most trusted companions have four legs. Since three determined students from Sacred Heart Model worked to establish a Pet Food Pantry in our Daily Lunch Program, those furry companions have also been served. If you wish to contribute dog or cat food when you come to Mass on weekends, there is a labeled container in the hall of the Undercroft level of church for your donations. Thanks!

“Ask a Lawyer”

has been a weekly offering for our Cathedral daily lunch guests for several years. Attorney and Parishioner Chuk Obiechefu has been the contact of late. Now, the ministry has new format.

Lunch guests and other clients of our Social Services Office will be able to call Chuk, 502 -309-2512, to set up appointments to meet with him in our Social Services Office. Other members of the Louisville Catholic Attorneys Group may also be assisting him when needed. Thank you Chuk, for making this possible!

Lent begins Ash Wednesday, February 22. Join our Cathedral faith community—and nearly 13,000 Catholic communities across the United States—in a transformative Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl. You may pick up your Rice Bowl as you leave church. During the 40 days of Lent, we will reflect on the impact of global hunger and climate change on vulnerable communities around the world, and we will pray, fast and give alms to help our sisters and brothers in need. Lent is a season for intentionally slowing down to pay closer attention to our relationship with God, our neighbors and our planet.

House Bill 21 - Access to State IDs

As you are most likely aware, our Cathedral Social Services Office regularly helps those who are homeless or without funds with a voucher to obtain a state ID. This has been a priority our parish has championed for at least 12 years. The cost of IDs has gone up. Please see this message from The Coalition for the Homeless:

Kentuckians experiencing homelessness need access to IDs

Official state IDs are an essential key to getting access to housing, medication, employment, and interacting with the world. For someone without a fixed address, getting an official ID is incredibly difficult. People who have been displaced by eviction or have been living on the streets rarely have all the necessary documentation to get this critical credential.

Our state must make it easier for Kentuckians experiencing homelessness to get a photo ID.

HB 21 updates current law by:

· Reducing the cost for agencies and people experiencing homelessness from $10 to $5

· Allowing 16 and 17-year-olds that are experiencing homelessness to get an ID without parental consent

· Allowing people to renew a driver's license while they are temporarily homeless
